No one is paying a first for Josh Anderson even if he had a decent contact, so with 5,5 million until 2027 I would be surprised if you get any assets for him.

I don't know how one player is so consistently overvalued.

      Habs fans - please....
Any Anderson trade should start by eating $2.5+ million of his salary.
That is sunk cost and it will never come back.
And no team should "pay" for that retention (that contract was Montreal's mistake, not ours).
Then, look at trade comps for bottom-six, big-body types, pick one....and model the trade off that.

For the Devils, we currently have Nathan Bastian at 4RW and are paying him $825,000.
Over the last few years, in terms of overall goal-impact, Bastian has been better than Anderson (at even-strength, on power play and short-handed).

We are a team that relies on speed, possession, transition.
Adding "hits" does nothing for us. It just means we would be playing with the puck less.
And adding goals on both ends does not make a team better.

And please, listen to what everyone else is saying (and ignore that one random podcaster)

Many prominent nhl anylasts on TSN say Anderson has that value. Anderson is the fastest guy on Montreal so speed is not the issue. If you actually watched him play, you’d want him on your team. I understand the contract is an issue, it’s not ideal but it’s the chance you take to get a player that can define a rough and tough playoff series.

Don't you guys know that Edmondson and Anderson are the second coming of Jesus? Jack Hughes 1 for 1 wouldn't be able to pry Anderson away from Montreal. He's going to win the Hart and the Rocket.
We certainly can't forget that Toews is winning the Selke and in the best shape of his career.
Finally you've got Norris frontrunner Joel Edmondson, a true game breaker on the point.

How ydo you all not see this????

True but he is a big tough defensemen and that's what every team desperately wants now apparently. He also didn't have one of the worst contracts in the league.

This Anderson bad contract narrative only exists with cap-friendly GMs. The cap is going up by 4-6m in the next couple of years. Have a look back on the Habs-Leafs series from a few years back. He absolutely owns defenceman in the corners and changes the way they move the puck/go into corners. I know this might be foreign territory for Devils fans, but playoff hockey is completely different than the regular season. Who is the intimating forward presence Wood? Palat?

The return will be a 1st and an A prospect if he goes.

I don't care about anything else. If I am getting a 1st, 2nd and Bourgault for Toews, sign me up. Hawks accept.

Devils head pro scout has been to a lot of Habs games, home and away, since early January. Often with Andre Savard (former MTL GM and now with NJD). So they could be looking at someone with that much coverage. I just haven’t the slightest clue who.

Our BMW plays that role now (Bastian, McLeod, Wood). Plenty of size and physicality. And Anderson actually reminds me a lot of how Wood played before his hip injury last year (he is one-step slower this year). Zetterlund is also a big body along boards.

Other than that, we get most of our size from the blueline. Hamilton, Graves, Bahl are big fellas. Siegenthaler and Severson can dial up physicality when needed. And Smith plays a heavy game.

But what we have been looking for is a top-6 winger, who is especially strong near the net. A big-body, soft-hands type that can screen, tip, deflect, clean up rebounds.

      NJD ranks
      Scoring chances: 2nd
      High danger chances: 5th
      Goals on rebounds: 22nd
      Goals on tips: 26th
      Goals on deflections: 31st

It’s clearly a big missing piece in our lineup. Which is why someone like Meier, Boeser make sense. We do not really need another “big” to log hits. If we did, we could find cheaper options.

LOL. You should you read Jake Muzzin’s quote on Anderson and the end result of that series. +/- is a great stat, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

wow a quote. He didn't put anything on the scoresheet and got outscored on significantly while on the ice. Find a better example to prove he's valuable cause that ain't it
