Pens don’t need Seeler. They certainly wouldn’t pay a 4th for MacEwan either. Oilers don’t need Braun as he’s a right shot. He also isn’t good.

Bruins need the cap space now to carry extra players and add at the deadline so Smith needs to be moved.

I like Laughton, but not at that price.

That 3C spot has likely been filled anyways.

Then move him in a trade for an upgrade. Not in a separate transaction. Toronto added O’Reilly with no cap. This is pointless

Flyers don't really need kravtsov RW is the deepest spot they have, and he's not really torts type of player.

Toronto added O'Reilly with Muzzin and Murray on LTIR otherwise they wouldn't be able to add him. Smith has negative value at $3.1M so they need to add an asset with him. They can always dump his contract and acquire a player in the same trade like Backes/Kase or Lindholm/Moore but doing it separately is not really an issue.

Bruins take that an run. A pair of 5th rounders to free up $3.1 million in cap space? that's a no brainer. Odds of a 5th rounder playing 100+ games in the NHL is around 15%. I think I'd rather have $3.1 million in cap space to bolster this years cup contender vs a 15% chance that I get lucky enough to land an future NHLer....who likely won't even make the roster (if at all) for 4-5 years.

It’s not 3.1 million. Salary cap goes by days. It’s like 800k at deadline. Bruins are going for a D so dumping a forward isn’t the best depth move. With nosek on LTIR bruins aren’t even accruing cap space. Use the trade machine on here instead of armchair GM

If they move out Smith and his $3.1 million hit, they can turn around and add a player with a $3.1 million hit (or less). The Bruins are looking to add defense but also some bottom 6th depth. They've been linked to Barbashev and were kicking tires on Toews before he announced he wouldn't be traded.
