I don’t know about the values of the trade you proposed - but Parayko is in a tough spot because the entire Blues team’s defense is:
To start the year, Scandella and Perunovich were injured and have been. Then Krug has missed a ton of time, and is still injured to some degree. So that’s 3 players from the same position.
Due to this, and not being mean, but the Blues left side defense is basically Leddy, who isn’t a top pairing guy, an AHL-er in Rosen, and now Tyler Tucker, a 7th round pick, 22 years old, doing his best. Recently, the Blues seem to lose a defenseman early in games, primarily Krug, and have to play with 5.
Parayko can’t really be Parayko due to this.
It sucks seeing a lot of blues fans on social media being mean towards him. He’s in an impossible situation and is playing a ridiculous amount of minutes.
That being said, I think he gets dealt, especially if he wants to play in Canada. It seems there are a lot of players who prefer to go to the States. I think because there are only Canadian teams rumored - Flames, Oilers, Senators, that it’s likely he would or wants to play in Canada.
I think because his contract is a bit long relative to his age, that the price will not be as high as one may think. Somebody has to assume the risk of his final 2-3 years. I don’t think this is that huge of a thing, but it will devalue him. Risk is one of the 4 legs of the balance between time, winning, and money. You can’t have all 4 ever. Each one effects the other 3.
