Not sure where you are getting your information but that doesn't appear to be the case. The cap will most likely remain at $73 million, which means the Pens will need to get creative this offseason.

source I read said players wouldn't use the full 5% escalator but they'd likely go somewhere between 2-3% so actually seems fair. Can't find the link at the moment but believe it was Bob Mackenzie

TSN through Larry Brooks reported that the NHLPA will keep the cap flat this coming season.

Not true at first yes, They thought it might stay flat. But now it'll probably go up 2-3% now because too many UFAs like Shattenkirk get screwed on getting paid if the cap stays flat.

If the cap stays flat then players like Shattenkirk Alzner even Thornton or Marleau are screwed in getting a decent salary it's arleady been said that the current crop of UFAs wont tolerate a flat cap.

Where is this information coming from? TSN just posted their article based on Larry Brooks report 2 days ago. I have not seen any article or report to indicate something has changed. This may sound harsh, but I don't think the NHLPA is worried about Shattenkirk; he will get paid regardless. It is those mid-level players that are always the issue, with teams resorting to cheaper internal options than over-priced veterans.

It's already been said? By whom? What's their to tolerate? 4 UFA players does not dictate what the NHLPA decides to do. They are the high-end of the UFA crop and they will find a home and find good money somewhere.
