Colorado TDL

Created by: bluspy88
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2023
Published: Feb. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colorado has been banged up all year, but still in a place to go for it. I'm going to explore what options I think make sense for them for both this run and 2024.

Biggest thing here is I'm assuming Landeskog will not be healthy until the playoffs. There's also a chance Makar may be out a bit which would be terrible. I think they will be ok with the cap though.
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,912,500 retained)
  2. Kulikov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
This might seem rich to COL fans, and I could understand that. But, I think if they can move the 2024 1st over the 2023 first, this could be worth it. Henrique is very underrated, and though he just was injured he will be back relatively soon. Kulikov will give them good bottom 6 depth for a banged up D
ANA
  1. Ranta, Sampo
  2. 2024 1st round pick (COL)
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (COL)
2.
COL
  1. Lafferty, Sam
Additional Details:
Lafferty is incredibly versatile and is having a great year. Having that extra year signed for so cheap is huge as well. Like I said, these deals are a lot to move out BUT the time to strike for COL is now.
CHI
  1. Bowers, Shane
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (COL)

Hm. I honestly am not sure, I have had Henrique moved in a few of my other TDL ones. I still think they're going to want a 1st because he has term and he really has been good. Maybe no 3rd? But I think Henrique's market may be a bit competitive.

Hawks decline. They aren't waiting 3 drafts for their payoff

It is not uncommon recently for picks further down the line to be moved, including in bigger deals

It's more of what will it take to pry Henrique out. We're under no pressure to move him, and we can do so next TDL for a 2nd and a B+ prospect with a months worth of retention (piece of cake for us)

So the question then becomes, what's 82 games of Henrique worth to the Ducks who use him on the top line, both the PP and PK, and is mentoring our youth? Keep in mind, we don't have an internal replacement for him, and the LW market sucks this off-season.

Yeah I agree. I think its at least the 1st, Ducks would want 2023 Avs would want 2024. Do you think the 2024 and Sampo Ranta is at least a starter?

It's a possibility, I'd need to look into Sampo more. He has Verbeek size, need a better understanding of his skill set and ceiling to make a judgement.

I think Anaheim should play hardball for the 2023 though, with ROR and Horvat traded, and Toews removed from the table, unless there's a dark horse 2C candidate to be moved out there, I don't know who else you would get, and there are multiple teams trying to upgrade at 2/3 C with a guy like Henrique (Pittsburgh, NJ, Carolina, even Dallas could use some more production)

Yeah it could totally end up as the 2023 1st in my opinion. Don't think the Avs care too much about the immediate future, but would probably come down to how they feel about making a run this year.

That may be, but there will be multiple teams interested in Lafferty, and the Hawks will favor a team offering a 2023 pick

Why do we keep pretending that Sam Lafferty is a trade option?

Because he's been named as so by Friedman and Seravalli, pretty trusted insiders. Not saying he will get moved but he could be.

Actually, yeah. You all were right. Lafferty was a trade option, BUT HE WENT TO THE LEAFS.
