Description
Any fan of this team knows they are likely a season or two past due to tear it down. Lets weaponize the cap space you can get from putting Boro, who's career is likely done, and Johansen who had season ending surgery this week on LTIR.

Boston is looking to shed cap space and bringing Craig Smith back to retire as a Pred is a feel good story.
LA knows Quick is cooked and adding a top 10 goalie like Saros could put them into contention for a cup for the next few years.
NYR are a team who have intentionally added toughness over the past few years and Jeannot feels like a good fit there.
NYI need to clear some cap space forthe offseason as they are at $78 million next year without resigning Wahlstrom or a backup goalie, this could be made between the end of the season and the draft.
Toronto needs cap space for adding a Dman and Kerfoot seems to be the odd man out.
Colorado needs depth scoring and are familiar with Kerfoot and he's much more attractive with salary retained.

All of this leaves you with a nice stack of draft picks for the next 2 years, puts you with a cap hit of ~$69mill to resign Lankinen, Glass, Fabbro, and Carrier for the next year. I'd also be shopping Fabbro for a 1st (I know that may be a reach) and likely look to move Niederreiter and Bailey with salary retained at the 2024 trade deadline. Moving McDonagh or Ekholm are also on the table but more likely in a few more years with salary retianed as well.

so Kerfoot, who is actually useful and makes like 900k in real cash costs almost as much to move as Bailey who is significantly more expensive AND has an extra year and then suddenly you can flip him for a 1at? What? These are all pretty slanted to nashville, but that's just absurd

Rangers say no because they’re deep on LW, can’t afford to re-sign Jeannot, and he’s probably not worth that much. They couldn’t do it anyway because the Dallas first is contingent on a condition that technically hasn’t been met yet.

So Toronto pays you a first to take Kerfoot off their hands and then Colorado pays you a first to take him off YOUR hands? All because you're retaining $1.75 million?

That seems like an unlikely sequence of events. Minnesota just got paid an over-the-horizon 4th to retain $1.875 million in the O'Reilly deal.

If shedding Zaitsev from a bad OTT team who will pick in the front half of the draft is worth a 2nd and 4th, how from a playoff team in NYI isn't shedding Bailey worth a 1st and a 3rd?

How do you view a 6th with a 5th coming back equal to a 3rd from the NYI trade in the TOR trade?

The COL trade has a 3rd coming back as well.

In what world would taking on Kerfoot be worth a 1st? Also in what world would a 50% retained Kerfoot be worth a 1st? You've gone from 1 extreme to the other all in 1 trade.

Basically all the cap dumps don't get done here. The prices you are asking for are ridiculous across the board and would be underbid by a half dozen other teams in the league. In fact, I highly doubt anything in this AGM gets done. It's all ridiculously slanted towards Nashville.

Zaitsev is a terrible defender, like worse than bottom pairing bad and he has an extra year of term, and as i said kerfoot is actually a decent player, they are nothing alike. And clearly you know that if you think you can get a 1st back simply by retaining a bit

Islanders have zero reason to pay that much to dump Bailey. A 2nd is all it would take. anything more, we would just buy out.
