A BIG Gamble

Created by: robrob10
Team: 2023-24 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2023
Published: Feb. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Schmaltz trade is a deadline trade to add him for the rest of 2023. Foligno gets subtracted for cap space after 2023. We could add more at the deadline for 2023 if we want to. As we have the cap space for the rest of 2023. So there is that option if we want to give up picks or prospects for rentals. This illustration shows we can add a player with term if the situation is right. Maybe Boeser or Chychrun would be a better add.

Schmaltz likely costs two 1sts+ without retention. With 50% retention this offer would get you laughed off the phone

I don’t get the purpose of the trade for Minnesota.

I like Schmaltz, but I wouldn’t give up that much for him.

Schmaltz is a great player, a righty, a center and is on a good, if not great deal. Minnesota would be fools to not have interest. They'd also be fools to rush and get a fix to the center position without any cap space and pay the likely really high price of acquiring Schmaltz

Nope, he’s not. He’s a winger. He plays opposite side of Keller. Hayton/Boyd have been the center for that line. That’s why this makes no sense.

The Wild definitely have a need for a right-shot forward with Schmatz’s skillset…even if he is a wing.
