Edmonton's bottom 6 and defense are just not good enough and they are SUPER cap strapped. So it's tough to make moves. They should be all in on Chychrun/Bjugstad/Boyd (50% retention for 2 years) from Arizona. That should be their bear minimum. Maybe add a guy like Barabanov as well if they can get him 50% retained for this year and next. They need to totally revamp their bottom 6 in my mind.

ALOT of work to make this a serious cup contender. And they should do it.

I see that they are very top heavy on top 6 contracts. Might have to try and see if someone Pul, Yama, Ceci, Barrie (1 or more) in trades with a draft pick. I suggested a Jensen for Pulj + 2nd with Jensen 50% retained. You free up a little money this year and add a good depth defensive defensemen. He won't make much more if they offered him an extension and honestly if he didn't want to sign at least you got a player for the playoff run but monies are coming off the roster. They could do a similar thing with Yamamoto or Barrie. Yes you would lose some draft picks but none of them will be playing in 3 to 4 years anyway. Just my two cents. wink

I don't think a 31 year old gets a first. I know Orlov did but Jensen isn't Orly.

So Ovechkin wouldn't even get a first?

Jensen is younger than Orlov, a great puck mover, right handed, and on a cheaper cap hit. He could absolutely get a first. Multiple teams are already reported to have called GMBM for him. We’re not moving him for a small return. We will re-sign him or get a high return.
