leafs move out a player for garland maybe

Description
Kerfoot been very solidly defensivly and has been looking very good on the fourth line. Engvall hasn’t been that great with Kampf all this year
Engvall still doesn’t hit, he makes a lot of bad plays and isn’t consistently good as a third liner. He’s more of a fourth liner. The skills he has is good but he’s super inconsistent and can’t use them properly. I don't know why everyone hates on kerfoot. Kerfoot has new linemates and he's playing very good.

so that brings to my question.
Would you rather have crappy 3rd line engvall or really good expensive 4th line kerfoot

What would garland cost without trading kerfoot? rumours say garland was going to be boughtout. sooo if Vancouver is willing to dump him and leafs are willing to dump him, maybe both teams can come to an agreement???

I'm aware the trade is bad

If the leafs acquire Conor Garland he will become the new "Kerfoot and Holl" as the player deemed expendable in every trade offer on here moving forward.

Canucks decline. I think the most likely scenario is that the Canucks keep Garland. He's played much better under Tocchet (10 points in 13 games) and looks like he will continue to play well under a coach he also played well under in Arizona. Canucks certainly won't retain and move him for a bunch of scraps.

Nino makes 4mil while being 4 years older. Garland makes 4.95 with better point totals than Nino in every season since he became a full time NHLer. But sure the Canucks are gonna retain 2mil and trade him for nothing.

The remaining term is the issue, if they retain salary on the deal for this season and 3 seasons after this one they would be able to gain an asset back sure, but retaining for three seasons is a lot. But trading Garland with that current contract would not get you anything in return, you would have to pay to get rid of it.

Nino only had one year left after this season, but preds only got a 2nd since jets took the full contract. Nino also has a longer track record of success and size still matters for playoff hockey, teams will pay for size with skill to go with it.
