Reports are that we have had discussions regarding JT Miller. 100% I would not do this trade. The contract is way way too much. I think it would be very bad for us long term
That said, if I'm playing devil's advocate, this may be a trade that facilitates Chychrun. If VAN took Dumoulin it frees up the space and roster spot for Chychrun.
The man just put up 99 points for a pathetic team. Who cares about long term. Go all in while the big 3 are still playing. Besides, when they retire I’d rather us be terrible and her high picks than us be mediocre for years to come.
Think I'd be less worried about "long term", and more worried about the next 2-3 years. Hextall/Burke doubled down by giving those contracts to Letang/Malkin/Rust. Whatever it takes for picks/prospects to improve this roster should be 100% available, whether it's for JT Miller, or whoever.

I still wouldn't do it for the short term. His contract next year will prevent us from making any big change to the team. This roster needs help in more than 1 area. Would rather have 8 mil extra to improve the bottom 6 and D
I agree it would be dumb for Vancouver to retain, but if they really want him off their books after just signing him, that's what would have to happen. Either you ride out that 8 million for 8 years or you retain some and ride out that retention for 8 years. I never really understood why they signed up to that contract in the first place. I mean I know he had that 99 point season, but I can't imagine that is the standard for the next 8 years.

Hextall seems to have doubled down on this core...

Seeing as how Horvat for 8.5 for 8 years for much worse production over their careers says otherwise. If Miller was a UFA, likely a lot of teams would give him 8 mil
Ya'll are fu*ked when Crosby and Malkin retire anyways. Miller gonna be worth his contract for the next few seasons he just didn't make sense for the Canucks to sign. It makes a lot of sense for teams like the Pens and Canes to be interested. It's hilarious seeing people acting as if Miller is an albatross when he would get at least an 8x7 on the open market this offseason.
Miller aint bad but for teams like the Pens and Canes they cant even call players off LTIR because of the cap situation. I dont see how they can take an 8m caphit and still fill out the rest of their teams properly.

I dont think he's bad at all. Just dont think it's the right move for us given how many holes we have in the lineup

I mean, you've got $14.5 mil to add 6 players if there was no actual skaters sent to Van in this deal. I'd imagine there'd be money going the other way to offset.
I don't know...the Pens are a team with flaws...hard to fix 'em all.
