I was surprised that the Canes didn’t claim him tbh. He’s a solid player and PK guy, he’s just been cursed with playing on the worst line in hockey. Canes have a ton of cap room too, but with that said, your owner is famous for not spending to the ceiling.

The question here would be if the Canes would do this rather than us. Seems like there is pretty much no interest around the league in McGinn, rightfully so and especially on that pricey cap hit for a 4th liner

I'm sure the Canes would take that but no way the Pens would eat the Cap space for 2 additional years. Once he clears waivers he'll be reassigned and out of their Cap Space even though he'll still be paid out on his contract.

Still with the narrative about not spending to the ceiling? CapFriendly (which you already know clearly) is a great resource to see exactly how much money and cap is spend.

Canes owner is famous for being cheap on things that don’t make a difference. He, however, pours resources and cash into players and facilities that impact the product on the ice.

Absolutely no need for McGinn back, we thank him for Game 7 against Washington and move on

Correction to this... I was wrong in that the burried Cap hit when Brock would be assigned to the AHL would still be greater than this deal so it would make sense from a Pens perspective to do it. I could see the Canes doing it as nothing purely more than a depth 4th liner and at that price it's not a bad piece to have.
