Why is any team paying any amount to take an injured Monahan, especially at full freight?

What? Its 3 mil retained for a 3rd round pick, small price to play for a capable experience hockey player when healthy

But he's not healthy. You would have to put some heavy conditions on that pick (games played and points), or I think every team in the league is out

only condition would be "is Monaghan gonna be good to go come playoffs? "Yes" or "No". If the answer is yes the trade goes thru

Negative. He was supposed to be back weeks ago and still isn't. No one is going to give up a decent asset for a guy who is probably more likely to not play than anything. The conditions make a ton of sense on both sides in any Monahan trade.

Personally I doubt anyone even goes there, but we'll see.

Did you even read what I said. He's getting moved if he's gonna be healthy come playoffs. He won't if hes not. Sure you can put conditions but its the same thing

I read it. You can't guarantee he'll be "healthy come playoffs." That's the point. Guys have setbacks all the time. Monahan was supposed to be back some time ago. Landeskog is the same. Teams won't pay a decent price unless contractual conditions are on place. And a vague promise doesn't get there.

Totally, he could be a steal, or never suit up for a single shift due to injury. But when healthy he is an asset so a conditional pick could be a worthwhile gamble, and also assuming Habs retain 50% of his salary

Come on now. That's just silly speculation based on nothing.
