Caps and Sharks Fans - Lets hammer out a deadline deal

Created by: Random2152
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2023
Published: Mar. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm looking for a player teams want to dump, that they (or a 3rd party) will retain on who has some upside. I also want to shuffle some draft capital around in the trade

Labanc and Mantha seem like the best choices. I'll make initial proposals here based on what I am looking for.
(Note: Its a 1 or the other thing using the same assets - not a both option)

Trades may or may not have Kerfoot included in them depending on cap issues. At worst he is neutral value dump and frankly he is moderately positive (Engval esq return)

Basically 2024 1st + Kerf for PLAYER (ret to 3.5) and a 2nd and 3rd is the proposal
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Labanc, Kevin ($1,225,000 retained)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CAR)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Maybe Kerf. You could either keep him or flip him
2.
TOR
  1. Mantha, Anthony ($2,200,000 retained)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
2024 1st (probably with top 10 protections, same as above)

Like above - maybe Kerfoot

the deal is SJ is not giving up picks because we're rebuilding unless we're giving up picks for prospects. I get you're having us move up the draft in this trade but that 3rd is definitely not going and preferably we're not sending any picks for Labanc--we're just getting picks for him

That would certainly be ideal, but between his contract with the cap situation the NHL is in, plus an effective effort at destroying his trade value I think if you want a decent pick you'll need to send more value back.

Leafs don't have many picks in the needed range so I paid more and had you reimburse us essentially

Yes. That is actually the main thing I'm trying to exploit here, because that 1st round tag is hugely overvalued compared to a 2nd

Labanc has almost the same cap hit and point total as Neiderreiter and yet labanc is a cap dump with retention but Neiderreiter gets a 2nd in return?

Ah I forgot TOR is nearly clean out of picks at this point, jesus. Maybe Grier would just take a quantity of late picks Jeannot-style. I bet SJ is on Kerfoot's 10 team no trade list, so likely not an option coming back.

I would counter Labanc retained ~2m + CAR's 3rd for TOR's protected 24' 1st (2nd dropped out of the deal). Your 24' 1st is going to be late. Cap situations are screwed so not sure how to make it work honestly, presumes SJ is able to trade other players out which is risky in the amount of time left. We only have 1 retention slot left because Grier used it on Meier...

I love that Seattle kraken turned into a cute snake logo

We don't need more than 1.225, and to be honest - outside of what I think could be an effective player in Labanc, he (and Kerf) are red herrings.
The real asset I am after is the picks to replenish our cupboards while also helping the team.
Late 1sts are massively overvalued - and I want to leverage that to gain pick value
This is the goal. Makes it more clear what I am trying to do

Also yes I love my Derpy Kraken. Its soo00 good

Sharks aren't retaining plus sending good value picks. No matter how you try to swing opinion it doesn't make any sense for a rebuilding team with cap issues.

I mean teams in the sharks position have done similar things before.

If you are dumping Labanc (and he would be a dump) you'd either need to pay or retain.
I'm using a ret option, but I don't have the appropriate picks in the 2nd or 3rd to make that.
So I am overpaying, and having you reimburse us the value we give in a 1st rounder. Frankly given the Leafs picks I'd actually rather this way.

If you are a solid no thats fine, I get it. The picks are the real goal of the trade, not the player

I would argue he isn’t a dump. players with similar production salary and metrics have gotten 3/4th round picks in the last week. if sharks retain like this he is far more value.

Sharks have been destroying his value for the past year, and with the modern cap anything over 3 mil is a """bad deal""" if you aren't a star. Trade value is heavily based on reputation and I don't think that anything has been done to salvage his to where he wouldn't be a dump
