The more I look at this roster I made, the less likely do I see Yzerman targeting Tarasenko. We haven’t had a Russian player since Datsyuk, and I could see him wanting to pair with Panarin again, or signing to play with Ovechkin in WAS.

Tarasenko isn’t leaving the NYC market. And this team is definitely out of the playoffs next year and most likely the following as well. If fans want to continue to rebuild fair enough, but we will be at a decade outside of the postseason. Maybe I’m too scared by the 70s and 80s but I don’t wants decade out of the postseason. We have a lot of futures. I’d much rather part with some of these picks to target needs now.

Fabbri is above a ppg, and has a Knack for big goals. I think he is worth at least a 2nd and a 3rd, if not a conditional 1st.

I like the JVR idea. I'd like to see Kubalik gone before Fabbri. I hate hate hate Gudas, but he is exactly the RD the team needs right now. I'd like Chiarot gone too, I still am puzzled by this signing. I also think Edvinsson stays down until an injury. Albert is more NHL ready right now. Tarasenko is a bad idea, too much drama, the age, the inconsistency, the injuries, the proposed contract length... Also, Mazur is nearly a ppg at Denver, local boy to Detroit; he needs to sign after this season and get to the AHL as he looks like a great offensive middle 6 option, maybe even top 6 (he looks really good).

You have five -- five, count 'em, FIVE -- picks in the top 48 this summer, with a good shot that they're all in the top 40. You were semi-contenders for the playoffs this year and will only improve as you work more youngsters into the line-up, and with Stevie Y's talent at drafting and trading, you'll be serious contenders in 2025. I think that with the exception of your already-acknowledged-overly-hopeful addition of Tarasenko, it makes sense to sign some free agents short-term (like Verbeek did with Frank Vatrano) and see how things pan out. These are all pretty good ideas here.

Don't let Husso cloud your judgement on where this team is at. All the big wins required huge performances from Husso. Otherwise, this team has been owned by lesser opponents. This team is a scoring 2C and goal scoring wing away from being a playoff contender. Seider and Walman are elite, like top 5 in the league pairing, but after that, it drops of precipitously. Maata belongs as a 3rd pairing, Chairot should be a 7th D, and everyone else is lucky to be on an NHL roster. Kubalik belongs as a 4th line pp specialist, he is awful defensively despite how hard he tries. There are real problems to address.
