Detroit even does it without an extension, IMO. I see no reason, outside of money, that Lindholm wouldn't want to play with our Swedes long term.

If it comes with an extension wings accept

Was thinking the exact same thing. Without an extension I'm not trading a 1st and Veleno for 1 year of Lindholm.

Detroit definitely does it, If Elias Lindholm comes with an extension.

And no longer needing a to draft a center Detroit switches their focus to drafting RHD and takes Reinbacher with their pick.

Or Barlow if still there for a dominant winger that we need

Easy there! The extension is a must. He won't have another 40+ goal season high 20s and maybe low 30s. Last season he was centering Tkachuk and Gaudreau.

No, we're not giving up all of that for half a season of Noah Hanifin.

Detroit is so thin at RHD they've moved Chiarot to his off side. The need is much more pressing for an RHD. If you want a good young RHD you need to draft him. Since defensemen on average take longer to develop than forwards do it makes sense to get one ASAP.

    Definitely works for me.

If you look at my contemporaneous mock draft, you'll see that I have Detroit drafting Sandin Pellikka only because Vancouver selects Reinbacher ahead of them.

I'd take a "Reinbacher/Sandin Pellika vs. the field" bet.

You’ll have more than enough room to extend him.

Why wouldn’t he want to sign an extension in LA?

Because some team in a lower-tax jurisdiction might offer him the same amount of money as we can?

Because someone persuades him that their team has a better chance at winning the Stanley Cup than we do?

I can see Vancouver taking Reinbacher but Hronek was a definite upgrade. Even at 10 I think Reinbacher is a bit of a reach and the only way I see Detroit taking him with that pick is because they addressed their need for a center by trading for Lindholm, allowing them to draft a player they need over best available. I don't see Yzerman drafting sub 6' defenseman.

Sure, but he still isn't a slouch this year. On pace for 23 goals and 68 pts without those guys, on top of a FO win rate of 57%, CF of 57.2%, and xGF of 52%. And a Swedish RH C who was 2nd in Selke voting last year. What a fit he would be...

I get that and if it was Bostons 2024 I might be ok with it but they want the NYI 2023 1st and extension is a must.
