I didn't know that the Murray buyout was so cheap year 1. Year 2 is 2m though.

Cap space is so valuable at this point in the Leafs cup window. I would rather pay the assests to move him than to buyout.

Pretty solid post. Agree with you about Murray, I buyout is the most likely solution this summer.

They're probably more likely to pay someone a draft pick or prospect to have THEM buy him out - might be a tough sell as the true $ cost is about $5.6M. The Leafs had to pay a 1st Rd pick to Carolina for the Marleau buyout, but that being 35+ changes it a bit.

If he shows well down the stretch and into the playoffs, it won't take assets to move him. People just can't look past goals against on this site. He's a good goalie and he's been playing well for TO. I doubt he even gets traded. Giving Samsonov the keys without him proving anything beyond being pretty good this season is a bad idea. How did that work out for the Oilers with Campbell?

You really are jaded about the leafs eh? All the stars will leave, everyone else will cost TO assets to move. As for a solid post, 2.25 for Schenn? The guy isn't a full time NHLer in TO.

The Marleau deal was terrible, Murray is a good goalie. Dubas just last year dropped 13 spots in the draft to unload 2 more years of Mrazek and he's terrible. Murray has value of that's all it took to move Mrazek.

Not on all. It's value. Having 4.7m Murray on the team is a detriment to cap strapped Leafs. By the way in summer of 2024....the Leafs will lots of cap space....with Matthews, Nylander, Brodie and Murray contracts expiring. The question is, do the Leafs spend the cap on their own UFAs or not. Yes I do agree with about the Schenn contract

They will absolutely keep Matthews and Nylander. It will be a tough year though unless the cap goes up a great deal but it's easier the year after when Tavares is on his next deal which will be less than half what it is now

You do know that Matthews and Nylander are under no obligation to resign with the Leafs. I never understand the logic that "Leafs will keep them". It's not the Leafs decision. Now I will agree with the Leafs have a good chance of red signing Matthews and Nylander, but certainly there are no guarantees.....just because they play with the Leafs now.

Of course I know they have no obligation. But it just doesn't make any sense that they'll leave. They all have bought into what they are building here. Matthews loves it here, loves being the centre of attention and wants to win and he's best friends with Marner. They aren't leaving unless a new regime comes in and is the anti Dubas. Then they'll maybe want to leave. But I doubt it.
