Description
2023 NHL Entry Draft:

#110 (via NAS): (G) Ian Blomquist (Vasteras, HockeyAllsvenskan)
#121 (via TBL): (LC) Ivan Anoshko (Minsk, MHL)
#124 (via TOR): (RC) Samuel Fiala (Liberec, Czechia U20)
#159: (RD) Kaden Hammell (Everett, WHL)
#191: (LD) Oskar Asplund (Almtuna, HockeyAllsvenskan)
#223: (LC) Artyom Kashtanov (Yekaterinburg, MHL)

Signings and trades should make some semblance of sense, happy to be told that I'm wrong in the comments down below regardless. I would be willing to downgrade the Hurricanes' and Red Wings' picks to 2024 4ths in order to accommodate..

This is probably the best set of forwards ever assembled during the salary cap era and would very handily look to become only the 100th NHL team to break the 4.00G/GP mark. Not sure if they join the 80's Oilers as the only other team to break the 400GF mark. Using paces from the 2022-23 season, the top six should be good for 269 of those goals. Magic. Kid line to eat a large dose of soft starts.

Ideally Berezkin is signed upon his KHL deal expiring. If not, he'd best be packaged as part of an upgrade. Likewise, Edmonton should look to avoid RFA LHD until Yevseyev can be convinced to come over to the NHL. Keep the leftorium stocked with UFA deals in the meantime: keep his path clear. All of Chiasson, Fanti, Pederson, Maatta, Munzenberger, and Wanner to start in the ECHL. It's high time that Edmonton start taking advantage of having an ECHL club.

I don't think the Canes would have much if any interest in Kulak. Chatfield is everything Kulak is, a fraction of the price, younger, and a FAR more gifted skater

Chatfield is a RHD, Kulak is a LHD. There isn't a conflict there, and it's likely that he's a suitable partner for Jalen as he's one of the more responsible defenders Edmonton has employed over the past decade. I keep seeing Carolina AGMs throw the bank at Graves or give actual assets for Scandella. Kulak's an upgrade on the latter and far cheaper than the former. Not sure what you've seen of Kulak but he's a decent skater.

None of those trades rhyme with "win now". You also have massively overrated Dumba - he's not special defensively and isn't a 1st pairing defenseman either.

Your roster has less experience, is worse defensively and now has 8 years of buyout money to deal with. Not something an experienced GM does to increase his Cup chances, that's for sure.

I've seen Kulak end up on his backside trying to get into footraces more times than I can count. Graves makes sense as a long term fit as a successor to Skjei on the second pairing, that's why you see Graves. Kulak isn't that. He's a poor skater, he still won't push Chatfield off the 3rd pairing. Oh, and I know Chatfield is a RHD but he can play both sides. It's just that when Morrow signs his ELC, that 3RD is going to be occupied by Carolina's best prospect

That's an interesting take, and not one that any NHL scout would corroborate. They use phrases like "smooth, effortless skater" for Kulak.

Your take on the trades is sure something else. I'd expect someone who exclusively views the game through a spreadsheet to value Konecny and the PK prowess of Trenin more.

The Oilers have the assets to upgrade their roster or move Campbell. Your choice. The salary cap exists, best of luck putting anything better out there while keeping Campbell rostered. The buyout combined with a cheap, shorter-term backup and an ever-increasing salary cap makes the egregious buyout stomachable. Winning teams don't rely on sub-.900 goaltending, I don't think you need to be a seasoned GM to figure that one out.

Regardless of what your calculator is going to tell you about Dumba, he's an upgrade on Ceci. He has a history of playing those top minutes in Minnesota and it's evident that Cody is now playing over his head. That's the whole point. There's no trade for Karlsson coming that makes sense for the Sharks, what other option do you want there? Severson is objectively worse and doesn't kill penalties. The immediate assets were used to fetch Konecny, I don't think there's another name out there that makes sense. Maybe Mayfield but what's his appetite for leaving New York?

I'll again remind you that the salary cap exists and that Edmonton still isn't a premier destination for free agents. Put your dreams of $2M fourth-liners to bed.

I dont know what else you would expect from anyone at CapFriendly. Your criticism ranges from antagonistic to nonexistent. I was fortunate enough to get both in your reply.

I too don’t want to wait to see what Campbell can do, but would rather see if we can trade him. An 8 year buyout is not ideal, but if we have to do it, then we do it in the end. We need to win now, and we can’t rely on a guy like Campbell making 5M to bounce back. I knew we shouldn’t have went for him. Dumba I don’t mind, but would rather see if we can get a guy that’s better defensively if we move Ceci. I’ve always like Conor Murphy. I would freak out if Edmonton got him! I do like the addition of a top 6 winger, and a good PK guy in Trenin.
