Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Only moves made Summer ‘23 is dumping Krug, a Sprong offer sheet and Mayfield signing. Either deal at the deadline or let walk Blais, Kapanen, Scandella, Bortuzzo, etc. Goal is to save cap in ‘23-‘24 and sell assets at the deadline if we don’t make playoffs.

Extend Vrana, sign UFA Hanifin and give the kids some playing time. Will have to dump Leddy and/or Saad in Summer ‘25 when their M-NTC kick in to make room for Buchnevich extension along with Hofer, Perunovich, Neighbours, Bolduc, Dean, Tucker. Also make room for Snuggerud to join us in ‘25.

Walman - Seider
Krug/Edvinsson - Chiarot
Krug/Edvinsson - Lindstrom
Maatta

Maatta can do what Krug can for half the price. Detroid needs RHD.

Honestly it would take probably all 3 firsts in this draft to get Detroit to take Krug. Likely one of the only places he might waive to and absolutely zero need for him. I think the Blues would be stuck with him. Might be more interested in Faulk though, not sure on his value.

tears of joy

You may be right about the Blues being stuck with him. But trading 3 firsts one being a top 10 is a bit absurd.

They are wildly different players. Not sure how you even come to that assessment. Krugs career low is 31 points. And that was in 50 games. Maatas career high is 29 and that was in 82 games. Krug is brought in to quarterback a powerplay. Maata is your pretty run of the mill 4-7 d man who doesn’t have outlying strengths. But also doesn’t have deficiencies.

I would argue they don’t even have a specialized puck-mover or PP quarterback. They weren’t even sure whether to use Seider or Hronek for much of the year. I feel like if there’s a fit for Krug, DET would be one of them.

Maatta is producing offensive numbers very similar to Krug this season at half the price. Krug is washed. A defensive liability and is a shell of his former self at the moment. It would be extremely counterintuitive for any team to trade for Krug unless his salary is retained.

Maatta, right now, is somebody I'd much rather have on my left side.

No he’s not lmao. Krug has 28 points in 52 games. Maatas career high is 29. Krug has always been a below average defensive player. That’s not news. Of course he’s been a shell. He’s been hurt half of the season. I mean come on man. It’s easy to look at stats and disprove your argument. You don’t even know why you’d rather have Maata aside from looking at 4 or 5 people complaining about Krug. It’s fine to not interject yourself when you don’t have reasoning to. It’s also fine to say you don’t think he fits what Detroit is looking for. But to just spew out wrong nonesense that takes 2 seconds to look at and say he’s washed and a shell of his former self is juvenile.

Why would the Wings want the aging Kruk at 6.5m.....Wings and Hanifan would so much better off if Hanifan signed with the Wings at same 6.5m cap. Trading bad cap and then signing good or even medium UFA for the same cap is really not practical.

What? He's become a weaker skater and is half the player he used to be at a very unappealing contract. It's not my fault you're a coping Blues fan who cant grasp that Krug is half the player he once was.
Clinging on to all 28 points he has this season as if Maatta doesnt have 19 in a lesser offensive role.

Enjoy that 6 mil. Maatta is a much better player.

I'd rather have Maatta because he plays a more complete role. He might not be the ideal PP QB, but he's not terrible at moving the puck and he's A LOT more well rounded in his own end than Krug and all of the 6m he's making. Saying "but Krug is brought in to QB a powerplay" is such a washed argument because Detroit has those players. Even then, acquiring somebody with Krugs cap hit and his age to solely be a PP specialist is a terrible move.

I interjected because the people in this thread parrotting the same things that I'm saying all have a point.
Krug sucks. Unless he can have some crazy resurgence, he'll continue to be a shell of his former self.

I don’t beleive Krug is great. But, given where Detroit is having someone push forward their scoring in the powerplay at a marginal defensive loss makes sense. Krug has never been a great skater so I don’t know what you’re on about with that. He’s not half the player he used to be. He’s producing at a very similar rate.

What I’m getting at is have reasoning for coming to conclusions versus just echoing thoughts from people who also don’t have reasoning.

Enjoy that 6 mil is a cute touch. Thank you, I will.

Except I'm not. He sucks. Fallen off a very tall ladder and yes, is a shell of his former self.
