You think deals like this keeps Matthews in TOR? This team sucks. That Nylander deal is terrible. Better off extending him than adding Kane. And Crouse has not earned that return either.

Don't think Matthews and Kane would get along with each other if they're on the same team

But the hits! I agree completely, Crouse is a 3rd liner, Kane is half of what Nylander is at this point. And this roster sucks

Kings don't take that Reilly trade, they just sign a UFA for 7.5m or cheaper. More nonsense about trading a player (Nylander) with one year left till UFA, and expecting a huge return "for extension"
Leafs would be better to just to resign Bunting and keep; those young assets especially Woll instead of trading for Crouse.

What FA is remotely as good as Rielly? Although this is capfriendly and you seem to hate the leafs more and more these days so I guess I can't really blame you for thinking Rielly has no value. Much like you seem to think all our players have no value and any FA is equal to them.

I'm not saying Reilly has no "playing "value, but certainly his trade value iis really iffy to me. He hasn't been good this year. LHD and LWers are the two most numerous of positions of players;
Look at this post. The author has the Leafs signing Graves for 4m X 5 to replace Reilly. Gee, why wouldn't that Kings do that, and then they would have 3m in cap and the first and second rounders too.
Same with the Nylander trade. Trading Nylander for two first and second, just to use that cap to sign Kane.
So should I put you down as someone who thinks the Leafs can great assets for their high priced players, and then used that cap to sign UFAs, and that other teams can't sign UFAs?

Where is there in the preceding comment anything about Rielly's value? The point palhal was making is that the Kings can go a long way towards solving their LD problem by re-signing Vladi Gavrikov for up to $4.5 million or, as here, signing Ryan Graves for a similar amount. Los Angeles doesn't need a star LhD; they need a competent one to play with Matt Roy.

Francis has structured this team and its payroll (to this point) in a way that leaves them with balanced contribution from all four lines. This is so they don't need to depend on one to four expensive players to provide offense. Nylander's play is as hot and cold as it comes.

And as only a 2 year old franchise, Francis has also never traded draft capital higher than a 4th rounder to improve his team. This has served the Kraken well to this point . . . Don't see him bucking that trend now on a player 1 year from ufa, nor do I think Nylander likely wishes to sign with Seattle.

Why would the leafs do that? Graves isn't nearly as good as Rielly. Why do all leaf fans think everyone we have is bad?

Rielly is on a bargain contract and is terrific. He's also a leaf so 65% of all people hate him and think he's garbage. LA would be lucky to have him but I don't see him being the right target for them. Gavrikov and Graves are going to get massively overpaid as FA's.

It's not even a question of whether Reilly is worth his 7.5m contract. I just think the Leafs would make the LA trade, to get 7.5m in cap to spend elsewhere, and then they hope those two picks turn into cheap and good ELC contracts in a few years. I just don't see what is in the trade for LA. Surely they can get good LHD cheaper than 7.5m and keep the cap saving and keep their picks.
Gee, I'm one guy who has criticized so many Leafs fans who think other players from other teams are sooooo,,,,,,much better than Leafs
And anyone that seen Reilly play the year would think he has not played very well this year or at least to his 7.5m contract.
