Description

Trade DeBrincat, Forsberg, Brannstrom and Joseph to Anaheim for Gibson, Comtois and a 2023 2nd rd pick, (Assumes Gibson sees Ottawa as a legit Cup contender in next few years and agrees to the trade). Anaheim qualify DeBrincat at $9m and either trade him at the deadline to a contender for a 2024 1st Rd pick or sign him long term.
Plan C leaves some room for potential return of Formenton some time next season. Anderson and DeHaan signed to allow Sogaard and Kleven to play in Belleville, not sit in Ottawa.

Too bad all Canadian teams are on John Gibson's no trade list.

And once Verbeek re-signs Zegras and Terry, I'm not sure he can afford to give Alex DeBrincat between $8,500,000 to $9,000,000 per long term.

Ottawa has $5 million tied up in retained salary and buyouts next year, so 83.5m minus 5m in "dead money" = 78.5

Anaheim can qualify him for one year at 9m and he would be the #1 trade bait next trade deadline, especially if Anaheim retained 50% and a cap retention deal with a third team cut his cap hit to the ultimate purchaser down to 2.25)

galactic levels of over pay by OTT, G are not worth remotely the same as top 6 or top 4 players, best ANA can get is a couple of 2nds, or a 2nd and a B level prospect or a 1st in the range of 25-32 (if lucky)
