Hindsight is 20/20 but I really feel the Pens made a mistake resigning Malkin/Letang

I hope you are right sir, because I think the Pens are gonna try, but I doubt they succeed.

We need the right GM to succeed but even if we fail I would rather that then trade Crosby if he doesn't want a trade.

Alright sir. I would not feel the same in your position, but I know it's hard to let go after so many years of excellence.

We are not trading our best player and we aren’t trading the 2 who just resigned. All have NMCs. Trade Jake because he probably won’t resign here anyway and he has the most value.

Is he stagnating though? Will be be a star center in a few years, or like a 50-60pt center (which is good but not great).

Malkin will score 100 pts again with the Panthers

Not saying he’ll be a first line center but he’s playing really well just not scoring as much but hes getting better as a player overall. I think next year will be the break out year. He’s not worth giving up for 1 to 2 years of good malkin. Or not injured malkin which is always possible with him. I’ll take him on the panthers but not for lundell

Isn't that self defeating though? If you trade Jake you get worse... If you are gonna get worse, might as well get really bad, no?

How is it self defeating to trade the player with the most trade value before we’d have to sign him to a huge deal? The others will either move on as UFAs or possibly be dealt editor 24-25. You can’t move out all these players in one summer.

First off, I want to be clear that I appreciate your response and your perspective.

The way I read your response (and I am not trying to put words in your mouth) was that you are OK with trading Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Jake, but you don't think it's possible to trade them all this summer. (I hope I got that right).

I respectfully disagree with that premise. I think the day you decide to trade any of those 4, is the day you find a taker for them. All 4 of those players still have significant value and there are any number of GMs who would be able to sell those acquisitions to their owners and fan bases.

Thanks for your response!

Your 100% right. Agree with everything you did

Not sure if you are trolling me sir, but I genuinely think these are the values for those players

Not trolling at all. We 100% should rebuild asap. This era is over for us and the longer we try and contend, we'll go from mediocre to terrible and the rebuild will be 10x worse. I would be happy with all the value here too

So much negative feedback to this post, that I can't even recognize some positive feedback when it's offered.

Thanks for sharing your perspective sir!

I’d trade anyone on this roster not named Sidney Crosby. The only way he goes is if he requests it. He’s done too much for us to be a pawn.

Its not about letting go its about respect, to pressure someone who has done for us what Sid as done to accept a trade is pure scum

Do you still feel that way today now that the Pens have missed the playoffs for the 1st time in 16 seasons?

Absolutely lol - because missing the playoffs had absolutely nothing to do with re-signing Malkin and Letang. They would have been out of the playoffs weeks ago if it wasn't for them

Yeah fair enough on that point. With Matheson & Marino alone you probably would've clinched.

Oh for sure. So many little things could have had them in the playoffs - since technically they only needed like 1, maybe 2 additional wins. Trades, signings, bad roster decisions - I guess it depends on how far back you go. Even with those Matheson and Marino trades happening - if Sullivan just benches Carter like halfway through this season they're in. There's not a doubt it my mind that Poehling playing C over Carter is worthy of 1 or 2 additional wins.
