Could We Just Move Him to Centre

Description
Boeser has been put out multiple times to take faceoffs, especially in the defensive end, could be our 3C we are looking for? he has become more of a playmaker, he can play the middle of the ice if he needs to, he was quite good on the dots after Horvat left and he has been seen practicing draws with EP40, could this be a solution to many problems?

Is 40% FO across his entire career really what you want at 3C?

Last year was good at 51%, but this year he's below 40%. I'd also imagine his goal scoring will continue to suffer not only from trying to shoulder the defensive responsibilities of C, but also playing on the third line.

One of the least important roles of a 3C. Centres need to drive play and be responsible defensively. Faceoffs are only important during special teams. Avs won the cup with one of the lowest face off %

You can try it, Columbus did this season with Laine, but the Canucks are not the Avs, so tossing out FO% as superfluous seems short sighted.

    It's creative, that's for sure.

It would require Boeser showing up to camp in the best shape of his career more than anything. Using him as a spot center makes him much more valuable and improves the Canucks at 5-on-5 a lot and we have the winger depth to support him.

Definitely worth a try imo, the guy is a top 6 talent no doubt so if he can handle it it might be worth a try.

Teams should be more creative with their lineup and be willing to try things to find something that works. As a Jets fan who watched Maurice do the same things over and over just to get the same dull results while having a multitude of options, well lets just say its beyond maddening.

Boeser can barely skate. There is no way he could play center.

the thing is it was just this year that he lacked defencively, and dickinson had a worse fo% as hes a career ~42$ guy, and boeser has had some nights where he is dries FO guy

thanks, I think that it could work because BB was really hitting his stride at the end of the year, he was winning foot races, he isnt super fast but as long as he can keep up he should be good, and I think it will help with his goal scoring having him in the middle as it puts him in more of a goal scoring position as opposed to the wing, you look at him in his first year and he wasnt scoring from a foot away from the boards, its from just above the hash marks, I think if we are going to keep him, making him a centre would really help

I think that this is kinda my thinking, just change it up, PLD wasnt a centre till he was D0

I don't know how well his FO% is going to stand up across 600+ a season when his biggest sample size is ~60, it probably doesn't extrapolate out as well as you hope. I also ask, you try this experiment for a season and whether it works out or not, what's the long term plan? 6.5 million is way too much money to pay a 3C, even an excellent one. Are you just trying to ride out Garland or Beauvillier's deals and slot him back into top 6 RW later? Are you going to ask him to take a huge pay cut on his next deal to remain a 3C on the team?

It just seems like it would be better to trade him for an experienced C. Hell, I'd give you Strome for him straight up since he has been kicked onto RW with us. Bit cheaper AAV, more cost certainty since he has 4 years left, and is a natural center.

thats another option, but if he can transition to a top 6 centre, then hes a super valuable asset, its an unorthodox way of getting a good result, but with the salary cap hell this team is in, I am willing to try anything, not sure I would go for strome as BB has 2Y left and can still be a super effective top 6 winger, but even if he is able to get his defencive abilities up by playing down the centre and then he is able to translate that to the wing, I would go for that, I really like the guy, hes gone through a lot, and although it is a business, you feel for the guys as people so I think I would want to give him the best shot
