Pens - 1M Cap Increase Rumored

Created by: PensGM2019
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 21, 2023
Published: Apr. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Move 1 - Sacrifice the 1st round pick at the cost of moving out Jeff Carter. Penguins are trying to win one more time so use pick to move $3.5M. Can be any team, just want a 2nd round pick back for the 1st.
Move 2 - Create a more competitive 1A/1B goalie tandem. by addition by subtraction. First flip Casey Desmith for mid pick in this draft to any team and resign Jarry for $4M 2-3 year prove it, only suggest three years if his market is hotter. My 1B goalie will be someone with experience and can hold heavy workload.
Move 3 - Resign Jason Zucker. Market for wingers isn't the best so offer longer term and little less dollars.
Move 4 - Get some young guys on this roster; sign Nylander/Ty Smith/DOC to entry-level one-way deals.
Move 5 - Sign someone who can play on edge but top six. In this case I'm signing Bertuzzi.
Move 6 - Sign two in bottom six who can play on edge. Here sign Watson and resign Archibald
Move 7 - Trade Petry and revamp the defense by signing Gudas. Pens need some snarl on defense. Picked Dallas as I know there was interest previously but not exact answer.
Move 8 - Sign another bottom six to push Archibald/DOC/Nylander.

Anaheim is not looking to buy a backup goaltender, we wither decide it is time for Dostal to take the reigns, or we resign Stolarz to a one year deal. Shop DeSmith elsewhere.

There is enough value there to park Carter as our 4C for a season though, assuming he allows it.

I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM if Carter were willing to waive his NMC.

We're not interested in DeSmith in the least.

Reading description yall. Just chose ducks to do the trade. It can be any team...just what I'd send from Pittsburgh standpoint.

We both said we would take Carter.

If I were you though, I wouldn't move DeSmith to sign Raanta, that guy has had a reputation for being made of glass for 5 years, he cannot handle a heavy workload.

Carter blocks the trade. To anyone.

You might want to go for a different 1B if you're going for workload. Rantta is always hurt. Hasn't played more games than Desmith in a season since 2017 - and that's because Desmith was in the AHL. I think the rest is pretty good outside of the Petry trade and subsequent Gudas sign

You didn't say that you were sending DeSmith to any team for a fourth. THAT's the trade we rejected as a poor fit for our team specifically. The trade you specified as "could be [to] any team" is the one we both happily accepted.

My apology. I will edit that comment.

Bad idea to trade that first just to get rid of a contract. This is one of the best drafts there's been in a long time

At least with the Colorado pick, yeah, that's moving back why too far.

Ana 23 2nd at 33OA is much more equitable.
