I'd argue we've got a hole at 3RD as well, I think Benoit could use some more tutelage time under an experienced hand, not paired with White.

I'm 100% with you here -- or actually 99%, because I'm not entirely sold that Benoit and White are even acceptable third pairing defensemen. I wonder whether Pastujov and Perreault get a chance in training camp, and if they're ready.

He has a rather extreme aversion to players with a first name "Max". He has his reasons, I don't agree with them, but they are his opinions to have.

Interestingly, by analytics, White was better defensively (white was a net positive, vs Benoit a net negative). Not sure how much of that was Benoit getting crushed as Klingberg's partner though. The analytics try to filter out for individual effort, but I think the model gets broken by extreme inputs that are outside of the design parameters of the equations.

Benoit has some brutal metrics this season, but the poor kid was thrown into the deep end of top 4 minutes and that's way over his head. I think he's a nice option as a 6/7 guy on the depth chart because frankly he has traits that no other Ducks defender does.

Perreault didn't do anything in San Diego to make me think he's ready for a spot. The absolute best case scenario for him (IMO) is he makes the team out of camp, plays some games and then gets sent back to the AHL. Basically the next Regenda and Groulx, both those kids saw that pattern.

Pastujov is playing Junior. Tearing it up sure, but it's still junior and the jump from that to the NHL is massive. I also have doubts that he can play both sides of the puck right now and you can't get away with being 100% offense. He needs the AHL to start learning that part of the game.

If the team is trying to be better Strome is on the 3rd line with Vatrano. Depends on the rest of the roster if that’s at C or RW. McT stays at C and Zegras moves to the wing if needed.

Obviously the D needs a pretty big revamp too.
