I think both teams decline that trade. Ottawa isn’t getting enough longterm pieces and Calgary declines because they prob have a better chance of re-signing Toffoli over Cat

Certainly the Coyotes aren't going to trade for a more expensive, arguably lesser goalie . As of result the cap doesn't work for DeBrincat.

I can never understand this logic. Sens would get Toffoli for one year, Vladar and a second. Then next season even if Toffoli isn't resigned, well the Sens have cap space to sign a player (maybe a long term piece) by not having Toffeli or DeBrincat on the Sens. At the moment, even DeBrincat looks like just he going to be a Sen for just a year.

A Debrincat trade HAS to start with a 1st round pick no matter what. If there’s no 1st then there better be a 1 for 1 swap for a great player. Otherwise they lose the trade

Here's the problem as I see it. DeBrincat I going to get UFA money this season....either by QO or by signing a new contract. Few good teams have the cap for him this season, and poorer teams don't want to give a good first for either an upcoming UFA, even a signed RFA. DeBrincat's best trade value might be at TDL, if a contender needs a scoring winger and his cap hit won't be as onerous.
It still is possible that unless he signed by early summer, teams are just going to think him as rental. Teams aren't going to waiting around for a trade, they are going to get their roster set in the early part of July.

Even if he’s moved as a rental, he’s going to get way more than Bertuzzi got and with 50% retention. And that offer will start with a 1st and a B prospect even if only 1 team wants him

Dorion will go to Debrincat and ask which teams he’d be willing to sign longterm with. Probably a metro team or Detroit and then he will negotiate a move and get back a roster player to help next year + a prospect and a 1st
