Because next year isn't lost. Well, it is if this is the team you're going to suit up - but as of right now it's not lost.

Crosby/Malkin/Letang are old. There's no waiting. You can't just take a year off lol. Why would 2025 be any better?

And now Crosby is 37 and Malkin/Letang are 38. You don't have the luxury of just taking a year off lol. And it makes no sense to even try to.

The deadweight is still going to be gone even if you sign people this year. Your logic makes no sense.

trying to not resign old guys or get old guys in trades or FA

In 2025 you would have around 16million plus the increase in cap space to add in FA--- depending on what happens with Jake (re-sign vs trade now., you could grab some young stars and have the triplets for one last gasp.

Why? Why would you not want to sign people and make the team better?

Why would you wait and lose a full season of aging stars? It makes no sense.
