Description
Looking at https://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds, I can't understand how a team like VAN or STL could win pick #3 overall. Aren't there only two drawings?

Similarly, how could BUF pick 4th or 5th overall?

If 12 win the first lottery, they can only climb 10 spots, getting the 2nd overall.

Then, if another team between 3 and 11 win the second lottery, they get 3rd because they can't pass the first winner.

Anaheim would stay first.

I think it would be if a team 12-16 won the lottery, which would move them up 10 spots, and then one of the teams you mentioned won the 2nd lottery.

So like Ottawa wins the first draw, moving them up the maximum 10 spots to #2, and then Vancouver or STL wins the 2nd draw, putting them a spot behind Ottawa.

I don’t even really understand it so not sure if that’s correct, but that’s my limited understanding

If Ottawa's pick moves up in the lottery, do they get it or is it still Arizona's pick?

Top 5 protected. The pick they would owe ARI would be an unprotected 2024 1st round pick
