Tough call for the Habs. I think they turn this down based on the fear of having too many small bodies in the top 6.

I really just want Cat to be traded to Arizona or something so that Ottawa fans can stop with all these horrible trades...

I think its more horrible that teams want him without giving up more than 1 okay piece and some throw ins

Your main piece is the 2023 17th overall pick (NYI).
Carter Mazur is not a throw in nor is he an okay piece. Dude is legit and is penciled in as a Red Wing next season.
I have no issues watching Cat sign a 1 year 9 million dollar contract in Ottawa next year and have him float on defense for the Sens and if Detroit wants him they can just until he's a UFA.

I'm the type of guy who doesn't want him because he doesn't help teams win. Scores 2 goals for and then 3 go in your own net as a direct result of his horrible dzone play. He was at his best when an elite Patrick Kane was feeding him pucks. There's no elite Patrick Kane type on Detroit's roster. He simply won't help the Wings win anymore than Patrick Laine helps the Blue Jackets win. Just an overpriced guy who will pop 25 in for you and float everywhere else....Ottawa fans are just pissed they won't be getting back what they paid for him.

doubt Ottawa is doing that. Theyd move him at the draft to a team that will sign him longterm. Mazur/Berggren and 18th is pretty similar to Faber and a 1st that Minny got for Fiala

I'd do Berggren/Mazur and the 17th for Fiala. i'd take Fiala over Cat 100 times out of 100 chances. Becuase he's a better overall complete player.

Dorion is already on record saying if they can't trade him they will qualify him at 1 year 9 million.

If there is no trade partner willing to give the Sens what they want then they have no choice but to do this or he becomes a UFA and he comes to Detroit and the Sens get nothing. All other 31 teams know this. Ottawa has very little leverage to command a 1st AND a very good young player on a cheap contract in return. (ie: Berggren/Mazur).

Those other teams can have him then and they can give up too much for an overpriced floater. I’d much rather keep the 17th overall and turn that pick into one of Colby Barlow, Matthew Wood, Riley Heidt, Nate Danielson, Samuel Honzek, Brayden Yager, Gabe Perreault. There’s no way I’m giving up one of those guys AND a current top prospect or young player to our direct competition.

Not at a 9 million cap hit. Thats the kicker, the leverage isn't with the Sens or any acquiring team but with DeBrincat himself. If he says no long term in OTT and also wants a "market rate" deal you are not going to have a ton of suitors for that.

Also I am with Yzerman's plan with the rebuild, which is don't rush it and moving the 1st and or Mazur seems counter to that. I understand takes the Red Wings out of a DeBrincat trade but so be it.
