Wilson and 8OA is too much. Take out a 2nd and make the first 2024 then go to Prolly do it. But then not enough for Toronto?

The Capitals aren’t going to add ANY 1st to Tom Wilson for Mitch Marner and certainly not a Top 10 Pick. They’re also not going to be acquiring any $10M Wingers without a history of Post-Season success. Marner is absolutely the wrong target and his value is much lower to the Caps than many other teams as a result.

Everyone is forgetting one thing! The Ovie in the room...as along as he is a G8 is chasing 99's record they may make a move to help him do that. Granted its a bit of an overpayment on Washington's part, but not by much if you have Marner feeding Ovie for the rest of his career. It might be worth it to Washington and Ovie to hold that record. (Even the 8oa pick in a deep draft year)

For me I would be using MM to try and pry Cooley and/or Guthier from Azi if I am moving on from MM.

With the emergence of Strome you just shift out Kuz for whatever else you need. Marner is one of the best RW in hockey. Top 5. Wilson is a unique player but Marner is a game changer. Marner and Ovi would be silly.

Ya 8th might be pushing it with all the other stuff. Forgot Caps pick was that high. Still its a reasonable offer. Not as good as I though originally but could be shrewd still.

Marner and Ovi would not be silly, for any learned person who understands numbers and the Salary Cap, it would be stupid. The Capitals are not going to trade for any $10M Winger I can promise you that.

are you learned enough to realize Wilson makes 5.1 and Kuz makes 7.8 which is 12.9 million. I learned long ago 10.9 is less that 12.9.

I think as much as the caps don't want to trade Wilson they would kind of have to take this deal if offered (and of course if they could make the money work), maybe change the 2nd this year to one of the other 25 2nds but thats not too much of a sticking point. For other caps fans, yes Marner is a winger but is over a ppg for his career and just under a ppg in the playoffs. Obviously there have been some high profile playoff failures but the same could have been said for ovi and backstrom their entire careers until finally they got over the hump

The Caps don’t have a full roster signed and in this deal are exchanging two players who combined provide a substantial amount of their offense. No single player is going to replace that, it’s ridiculous to suggest that, and the Caps SHOULD NOT be spending $12M on any winger while they still have Oshie, Backstrom, and Mantha on the Cap. The deal is a no and it’s not a good deal for the Capitals, there is no argument otherwise.

Adding a 100 point winger is going to be bad for your offense? Please say that out loud to yourself. He's also up for the Selke. If Washington even had a chance at this type of deal they'd be silly not to take it. Your worried about losing Tom Wilson. We all like him to some degree but hes almost 30 and already misses big chunks of every season. Hes a unique physical talent but Marner is winning you far more games.

Kuz had 55 points, Wilson had 22 thats 77. Marner had 99.

What it does to our offense is irrelevant adding any single $12M player torpedoes our Salary Cap and keeps us from being competitive. Stop trying to defend this, guy. The Caps are not going to be adding a $12M Winger Full Stop. Also citing Wilson and Kuznetsov’s point totals in a season where Wilson missed 50 Games is pretty pathetic.

You said the Marner couldn't replace their offense. Take Wilson's best season 52 points that 107 vs 99. And add any replacement level you want to that you're improving your offense. Torpedo the salary the guy is worth far more than the 12 he's being paid. Kuznetsov is worth less the 7 he's paid. And Wilson is worth what he's paid if he can stay healthy. Soooo ya you improved and got cheaper and younger.

I'm still waiting for a good argument from you.

The only argument that matters is that Kuznetsov and Wilson have won a Cup and are Winners. Marner is a $12M Loser. The Caps are not going to spend ~25% of the Salary Cap on two wingers. Name a single Cup Winner that allocated that percentage of the Cap to two LW/RW. I’ll wait but I know that you can’t. Face it the Leafs are where they are because they can’t ice a competitive team in the Post Season with the Salary they have spent on Forwards. That’s it, that’s all.

People take playoff failure too literally. Ovi has failed literally every season but one by those metrics. Leafs have their issues no question. Marner isn't the issue. When they make a team Canada he'll be in the top 6 if not first line RW. When was the last time a Selke finalist had 99 points?

Tampa Bay - Stamkos, Kucherov
Colorado - Rantanen, Landeskog

You know the teams that have won the cup the last 3 yrs.

How many L's have you taken in a row now. Would you rather trade for 33 yr old Stamkos because he won in the past? You know he didn't win a cup till he was 30 right. So he was useless until then.

Did a Leaf fan just ask “How many L's have you taken in a row now. “ You need to know your role buddy.

Smart organizations do not try to win like the Leafs have by paying a handful of Forwards around $40M and trying to build a League Minimum roster around them. The Capitals are not going to trade for Marner with his current salary unless the cap goes up by $5-10M minimum, even then I don’t think Marner will be a target.

Your insistence that Marner isn’t a loser would mean a lot more if he or anyone on the Leafs had any substantive history as a winner. Alas, they do not.

Not a leafs fan. That's another L.

Every point you tried to make I categorical dismantled and yet you are undeterred.

You said no team invests that much in wingers. I showed you how the past 3 cup champs did exactly that.

You're claiming he is a loser because he hasn't won a cup. Neither had Ovi at 26. Neither has Pastrnak, McDavid, Draisaitl, Tkachuk, Hughes, Panarin, Fox, MacAvoy. Does that make them all losers? MacKinnon was a loser until last season right.

Now I'm guessing you'll pivot to "well if he so good then keep him" or some literal definition of loser which is having not won a cup. The cup is difficult to win. Some legends of the game never won it. Doesn't mean they don't contribute to winning. There is a lot of luck involved.

Stamkos, Kucherov, Mackinnon, Rantanen you know what they all have in common? They all made less than $10M when they won a Cup. In fact, each of them made more than $1M less than Marner when they won a Cup. Can you name a team since the introduction of the Salary Cap that won a Cup with any $10M+ player? You cannot because there has not been one. Paying $10M+ on a non-C, non-DMan is not how teams win. Please do keep Marner and let him keeping healing you win as much as you did this season, or probably less.

Exactly you are talking about 1 million as if that is the difference. That's how silly and arbitrary this is. You know what else they have in common, they are worth their contracts and more. So is Marner. You have dead weight all over almost every roster in the league. But somehow it's if you make over 10 mil as the arbitrary number you made up. I wonder why? Maybe because Kucherov and Rantanen make in the 9s?

Stamkos and Kucherov make 18 mil combined. When they won the cup the salary cap was 81.5 mil that 22% of the cap on two wingers. Ovi and Marner would make 24% of the cap next yr and almost certainly less than 22% the yrs after.

Couple more L's handed out. Do you want any more?

Oh you did that "if you like him so much then keep him" exactly as I predicted. The stubborn man's way of conceding.

Again not a leafs fan so don't care about the trade just like showing people when theyre wrong.

There is no conceding to morons. You can’t point out a single instance of any team that has ever won a Cup with a $10M player in the Salary Cap era because it has not happened. I’m done responding to your tepid nonsense. We can revisit when the Caps trade Wilson for Marner (never) or when any team takes Marners salary (or Tavares for that matter) without a massive salary offset. You can ignore it all you like, teams don’t win in the playoffs with $10M Prima Donna Mitch Marners.

Also nothing I have said is wrong you just keep deflecting and refuse to acknowledge reality. If you can name a single player making over $10M that has won a Cup we’ll agree you’re right. If you can’t do that, guess what (?), you’re full of **** and wrong.

You picked an arbitrary number (10 million) that fits your narrative and decided if you make over that you can't win. First there are only like 15 guys who've ever made over 10 mil against that cap. And they've all been in the last 5 yrs. On top of that you have multiple players who've made 9.5 mil and won the cup (Ovi, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov). Two of those guys were on the same team and neither play the premium positions you identified.

Florida is in the final 4 this yr and they have 2 players at 10 mil and one at 9.5. What happens if they win? You are proven to be a complete moron? You can't say they have no chance. I bet you'll just change it to 10.1 if they do right.

For you to have a point you'd have to pick a % of the cap that you can't win with two players that combined made above 10.

You said no single player could replace Kuz and Wilson's offence I showed how Marner had more than them combined. Wrong.

You called Marner a 12m winger he makes 10.9. Wrong again.

You said Marner and Ovi would make 25% of the cap. Wrong it's 24%.

And you whole argument is that you can't win paying that amount to top players when the most successful team of the last 5 yrs did just that. Committing 23% to a winger and a goalie. If you wanna go two wingers same team had Kucherov and Stamkos at 22% (thats 33% of the cap to 3 none C or D). You can be the most dominant team of the last half decade at 23%. You just can't win if its 24%. See how silly you are now.
