Matthews is staying. He just said that he is working with the Leafs to get an extension done before the season: https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2648475. And that trade value isn't good

I appreciate you saying not good with value.
Here are my thoughts...
1. ROR is making twice what I think he should get.
2. I'd like to keep Matthews but if you have to trade him, you need a key piece back. Your return is more of a mixed bag.
3. Toronto and Montreal aren't going to make a trade of that magnitude. They are rivals. That's also too much of a return for Marner and Brodie.
4. The last trade is offering up your scraps. Aside from Clifford, the rest could play a more limited role for Toronto next year. It's a long year and injuries happen
