That offer for Connor Hellebuyck is easily beaten.

Plus why would Hellebuyck waste his time on a Pens team, Who's window is closing in 3 years when Crosby and Malkin retire and Pittsburgh goes straight into the crapper,

Here are my own faults with this team, but what I would at least run with:

- Domi is overpaid probably, but I wanted to try and field a realistic offer that he would accept.
- Hellebuyck is based on reports that he does not want to be a part of a rebuild. I actually think I should have maybe given another pick, but he is in the last remaining year of his contract, so I figured to just run with it.
- Donato is also probably overpaid, but that is by design to create a bit more of a gap to make signing Guentzel a lot easier.
- Buying out Carter doesn't do anything honestly, but it was the easiest way to free up a roster spot. Again, I've heard this thrown around, and really you could make the argument that Legare or Pederson would be swapped with Carter and he would just be scratched.
- I'm actually somewhat confident on my Zucker signing that it could be somewhat close to reality since he gets a bit of term with the $3.25 mil.
- Engvall and Kirivanta are both lower guys who I think really round out the lower lines nicely without demanding too much from the cap.
- The D is probably the weakest area, but I'm banking on PO Joseph and Ty Smith developing into halfway decent players.

I'm sure there are a bunch of issues that will get pointed out but hey this is what I could come up with while trying to play in the (vaguely) realistic sandbox.

I don't entirely disagree. I was still writing my explanation when you posted. Hellebuyck has a year left on his contract. Pens need a better starting goalie and are in win now mode. Jets are seemingly going to rebuild moving forward and Hellebuyck has made it very clear that he doesn't want to be a part of that. Again, probably should've thrown another pick towards Hellebuyck, but we also live in an age where Fleury won a Vezina and was traded for a bag of pucks.

You didn't just compare an average goalie like Fleury that has had a few lucky games in his life to a Vezina Award winning goalie like Helly in his prime? Nah... you couldn't have. You just misunderstand the whole thread. Ya, that's it.

That doesn't get you Helle.

Domi overpaid and not worth it for 3c, he's not good defensively.

I'd bring DOC back to play with Poehling

Don't mind some of the other players, but you're probably under on the $ for Zucker.

No it's not. Despite how good he is, what else do you think teams are going to offer for a rental goalie?

Yes it does. What do you think teams are going to offer for ONE year of Hellebyuck?

You mean literal Vezina winner Fleury. You mean three time Stanley Cup champion Fleury? You mean William M. Jennings Award winner Fleury? You mean Olympic Gold Medalist Fleury?

Yeah. I meant that Fleury.

Oh yes it is, Rutta is a bottom pairing RD with very little to no value. Pen 1st is a 2024 1st which could be 32nd overall should they win the cup next year and a 2025 2nd. I'm sorry that offer is beaten by a country mile considering that teams would be willing to move late 2023 1st round picks for Connor Hellebuyck.

Honestly I don't hate that Domi isn't defensive, I'd rather have the age and skill to score. I do think I undersold Hellebuyck a bit, but I don't feel too incredibly far off. I think maybe Legare and a conditional would be the next step I would add.

They're not going to take Rutta back and if you assume the 2nd is to take Rutta then the 2024 1st is for Helle?? Yeah that's getting beat. Teams that have deep prospect pools and willing to offer a 2023 first beat it.

You mean the Fleury that played with a Stanley Cup team loaded, stacked, with stars all around him vs Helly who has barely a team in front of him. Okay, back to a brutal trade offer.

i mean.. you should care that he isn't.

I'd rather take Erod a 3c for less money and add the savings from Domi to Barbashev at LW.

I'd also happily take Helle but I don't think the pens will be willing to spend a 1st from this draft class to get him, will have to wait for the GM pick to see though.

Sorry, but nobody is going to give quality prospects for one year of Hellebyuck. Saros? He'll get a King's ransom because he has term.

To be fair he has 1 year left on his contract. So that would be well within the window you gave - and then he can just leave after the season if he doesn't like it.

You underpaid Zucker by a lot - but you might be able to squeeze him in under that 83.5 cap. My worry here is that Domi would be a nightmare of a 3C. Engvall is a good choice to have on his wing - but you're relying on him a ton defensively to make that line decent. Other than that looks fine to me
