Description
I'm real lukewarm on a lot of this, but does any of it stick at all?

I'm told Ullmark likely goes for a pair of 2nd's but I'd happily upgrade to the 2024 1st. It's a cap dump for Boston and a pit* stop for Ullmark, but the remainder of his contract gets the Pens about as far as their potential can take them anyway.

Does Staal sign for that? Is Ghost-Bear plus Petry a disaster in the making?

*I'm not making a pun, you're making a pun. Stop it. It's stupid.

That's the contract offer Bert turned down with Detroit before Yzerman traded him. He scored 10 points in 7 playoff games for Boston. His price went up.

I like this roster, but I have a couple thing. Bertuzzi probably signs with Boston, I mean if they trade Ullmark to the Pens (or anywhere) then that opens up a good chunk of cap space. Plus, I'm not sure Bert would sign for that. I guess he turned that same contract offer down in Detroit? Idk. Also with Staal, if he gets signed for that then it will probably be in Carolina. I would love to see him back in Pitt though. And to your point about Ghost and Petry being a bad pairing, I'm not really sure. I think it would either be really good or really bad. Someone else could probably offer more feedback on that pairing than me.

He’s not getting more than 6-6.5. He’s a career .67 ppg wing that can’t stay healthy and poor defensively. 1 playoff series does not change that. That’s fan logic, not real life.

Says you. He'll get what the market will dictate in UFA. You're talking from your arse as usual.

I agree with your analysis of Bertuzzi. But excellent chance some team will overpay him in $$$$ and term.....and likely long term regret.

There is always that possibility. History says otherwise. Players with 7m+ contracts are mostly centers and D men. The few wings that sprinkle that list are PPG studs, big time goal scorers, and a bad deal or two that were signed before flat cap.

But there is always 1 dumb GM looking to make a splash. 🤷🏻‍♂️

In MLB, GMs when they are looking at UFAs to sign or players to acquire by trade, more and more are looking at the injury history of a player. Stats show that injured players in the past are most likely to injured in the future. Wondering if a guy like Bertuzzi would be looked at in the same way?

What if the picks, or one of the picks, becomes the 2024 1st? Because that feels like a likelier deal to me.

I can see 6.5 for Bertuzzi pretty easily. I wouldn't go above that, I don't think, but 7 is something someplace might do. Unless the Pens can unload more (like Petry, somehow, or Carter, magically), I don't think they can afford more than 6.5 in any case.

Or they could really go thrifting for their goalie duo and spend ludicrously elsewhere. Blomkvist just signed his ELC, let's see what he's got!

The whole point of moving Ullmark is to gain the cap space, taking Rutta negates that. I’d take the pair of 2nds without Rutta before i’d upgrade one of them to a 1st with him. If you are dumping Rutta on me I want this years a 1st and a mid round pick in ‘24 or ‘25.

Hell definitely get overpayed somewhere, and for too long as well, could easily see 6-7mill AAV which will look really bad in a few years, but we see that every UFA period

Rutta could be decent RD depth, but imo if BOS trades Ullmark, its gotta be for a mid-high C prospect + draft captial, taking a bit of money back to make the deal work is not ideal obviously but wouldnt be the end of the world
