So obviously Nashville doesn’t accept that trade. They aren’t shipping away their captain.

The purpose of trading Marner who be to get cap space. Josi at under 2m cheaper than Marner isn't the answer. Gee Josi starts his the season at age 33 with 5 years on his contract...no thanks to that from the Leafs.

Wasteful agm. Rumour is that Murray is going to the island. Leafs would be better off retaining and moving him if not. Leafs just don't need Josi. The Anderson trade is awful for the leafs.

Josi is 32 now... its definitely possible there has been talks that maybe Josi would want to go somewhere else to try and win a cup.. Nashville would get younger here .

Leafs dont need Josi? Really? His shot alone from the point would add such a different dynamic to the powerplay that toronto has been missing for a long time. Hes the type of defencman you win with and theres not many of those left in the league rn.

Look at the term left on their deals. No team is gonna give up stars for guys who will likely test the market in a couple years

Leafs have plenty of big shots from the point. That is a system issue, not lack of fire power. Leafs don't need a 33 year old with a big price tag and 5 years left. They don't need any Dmen. Moving marner for something they don't need, and a contract that will age poorly isn't it.

Ok. its to get cap space. To do what? Go out and plug holes theyve had . Theyve needed a legit #1 defencman forever. the leafs are full of #2-3 defencemen they need a guy to take the defence by the horns . So the point of moving marner is because theyve proven year after year that much money on forwards cant get it done. This spreads that out.

It's 2 years of marner. Not a rental. Matthews will be re signed on July 1st.

Who do they leafs have with "Big Shots" that can legit rip one timers through a goalie for 25 goals a season doing it

Lol, I think Rielly did just fine. Leafs dcore is set and did a fine job this year. If you can move marner and boost scoring, move him. If you can't, keep him.

Lilly, Gio and Rielly to start. The part you missed is that Josi won't be ripping shots. Save 9.5m on the backend, keep marner and just green light them to pepper shots.

Yes, making him a 2 year rental. Matthews is only signing on July first if the leafs cave in to whatever his demands are.

Gio won’t even be an NHL caliber player next year and TL has a career high of 6 goals.

Lilly has an absolute cannon of a shot. Leafs system doesn't support goals from the point. Which is my point.

Reilly did just fine? Because he scored a couple floaters from the blueline passed a goalie who has issues with longshots?
Ill go over some numbers here see if you change your mind.
All Last year.

Reilly - 4 Goals
McCabe - 3 Goals
Giordano- 4 Goals
Brodie- 2 Goals
Liljgren- 6 goals
Total -19 goals

Josi- 18 goals

These are the goals for 5 of the leafs top defencemen this year. Sure Reilly got a few in the playoffs but they were luck seeing eye shots that Vasy should have had.
5 DEFENCEMEN it took to beat Josi's goal total last season. Do you still think the leafs have guys with "BIG SHOTS"?

It has NOTHING to do with the system. They had to play with what they were given. Matthews was dealing with a hand injury all year and playoffs. you think that would have increased the goal and shot production from the point with your theory no?

Look at marners last negotiation. This guy will almost certainly test UFA or demand insane money so any team acquiring him will have to view it as a 2 year rental. Leave it to a leafs fan to not understand something so obvious. Why do you think every AGM trading Marner for superstars and top prospects gets clowned. It’s cuz effectively he’s a 2 year rental for any team getting him.

Also having a “system” where the D men just hammer everything on net is a terrible idea lol. Sounds like a great way to kill possessions and make sure that your highly paid fwds touch the puck less

I think hes probably just trolling tbh. Anyone who thinks the leafs have BIG shots from the point when their whole defence scored less then 20 goals all season combined has to be a troll. The reason theyre not playing to take point shots is exactly the reason why because they dont have any Big shots that can blow it by a goalie. I cant remember the last time I saw a leafs defencman from the blueline not top of circles. wind up and blast a 1 timer through a goalie .... every single time its a floater.

No im not saying D just hammer everything on net , what im saying is they need a legit threat to actually shoot it... One teams actually cover. Theres no way teams sit in the dressing room before the game and say.. oh we better watch out for Lilypads Huge bomb from the point tonight , and Reillys Flutterballs that couldnt even dent a car door....But you can bet before games teams are talking about taking away Josis shot. gives more open space for the fforwards because it forces the defence to spread out opening up seam passes etc...

How many times have we saw teams just collapse and force toronto on PK and be super effective at it rewatch the game where Carolina had the zamboni driver in net. perfect example of what im talking about. its because teams are collapsing in because they dont fear the point shots.
