There is absolutely no reason for the Hawks to make this trade.

Welcome to CapFriendly. Just so you know you can change the team year and salary cap on the same screen you put your title. The rosters will then be set for what they will look like on July 1. You will then be able to sign free agents that wouldn't normally show you as being available.
That said on your Hawks trade it doesn't really make sense for either team. Arizona users their last two retention slots they would have available for basically nothing. Kassian can provide some toughness and protection for your young players and Nemeth at least just fills a hole. Also I believe Cooley is going back to school and he would also get max deal for ELC.

My logic was that Chicago could take a bad contract if they needed to, but I was questioning that myself. My other logic was that maybe they would take him to guard Bedard for like a year or two while he's younger and the Blackhawks haven't peaked yet.

Didn't know that about Cooley. And you're right about the ELC.
