Nobody is trading Clayton Keller.... I like the Yamamoto deal though. Makes a ton of sense all around.

I think you could take Schmaltz out of that deal and the Hawks still accept

Hawks probably need some tweaks to bite. Schmaltz with his 5.85 cap hit is probably neutralish (probably slightly negative as the jury has been in that he is only a winger and he has some durability/injury questions to him) value for what he is, but he is owed 22.95 for the last 3 years of his deal (or 2 million more in salary per year than the cap hit which has to start giving his value at least a little drag). I would probably need the Hawk 2nd next year (which is likely to be in the mid 30's) to be the Tampa 2nd if not the NYR 2nd this year. While I love #12 OA in this draft, Schmaltz with the back loaded contract and injury issues and 3 years left has at least some negative value that I'm not seeing calculated into this..

I definately would, but I view Schmaltz as a slightly/partially negative contract. His cap hit is not bad, but he is owed on average almost 2 million per and pushing 7.5 per in real dollars per for 3 more years. That is a touch rich for a winger that has some injury history starting to accumulate on the odometer.

You guys are crazy if you think Schmaltz wouldn't go for a late first. Let alone Arizona having to add a middle first to get rid of him? Absolutely insane. He's 27 coming off two nearly PPG seasons in ARIZONA.

The middle first is not to get rid of Scmaltz. The Hawk picks in this trade slightly exceed that middle first in value on most pick value charts. Which leaves weighing Mitchell and Schmaltz. Schmaltz is a pretty good player and the problem with your point a game point is the answer to why is that always only 50-60ish games a season and you are going to be paying him 7.5 on average the last 3 years of his contract. He has had multiple concussions and will only play 2/3rds of the season if his past history is any indicator. His "value' in this trade is the excess value from the Hawks picks vs the #12 and Mitchell which is not a late first and not much value to be honest (but I am not all that high on Mitchell).
