I'm personally not a huge fan of the Toronto trade. You could argue itd take Bostons first alone to take Murray back. I'd be asking for Knies instead of Minten if that's the case

There is no reason for the Blues to do that trade. Remove retention on Krug or the pick swap and it’s a bit closer.

I see what you are saying, but I think it's pretty close to the mark here. Seems pretty split on both sides whether they'd do it or not.

Where is it split on both sides?

POJ shouldn’t hold a lot of value right now. Krug at 5.5m isn’t awful, still not great. Moving down from 10-14 in this draft is a bit of an issue although it’s ever changing in regards to most rankings.

Not sure why the Blues would want to move Vrana. He fit in really well and produced well. I know a lot of people like to point to what Vrana and Buch were acquired for. But that doesn’t mean the Blues were better off not doing those deals or even close to it.

If the Blues are out near the trade deadline. They could conceivably trade Vrana at 1.3 million in cap hit. I’m not sure where else you’ll find a speedy 30~ goal scorer near that range. Hard to imagine that wouldn’t fetch a 1st at minimum.

I don’t see where your value is adding up is what I’m getting at. Nor is there a reason to do that to strap us with 1m in retention for 4 years.

If you take away the retention then moving Krug is a huge plus for you guys. Swapping the 1sts is not ideal for you but not a huge huge deal. POJ doesn't have great value, but certainly is a plus. And you get a 3rd. And it would suck to lose Vrana but are you guys looking to contend next year? I mean he only has a year left so might not be there super long anyways

Every indication from the front office is they want to compete next year.

Moving from 10-14 would probably be about a mid round 2nd. Just looking at the past draft pick value sheets in that.

I’m not so sure dumping Krug is worth a 2nd to us. It’s certainly not the worst thing in the world if it’s without retention. But I’m not sure we’re much better off without him if there’s not a coinciding move that brings in a LD who can play in all situations.
