Description
Effectively 1st, Ukko, and a prospect worse than Rosen for Hellebuyck.
Jokiharju and a pick for Demelo, but might as well just use the pick to upgrade to Rosen for the full deal.

That definitely works for both teams. I'd see if Buffalo does a pick swap with a late pick in 2024 tho just to help slightly 2024 6th from the jets for Buffalo's 2024 5th. Just helps slightly and shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Jets are already getting #13 OA and a blue chip prospect for a goalie that wont resign with them, plus a goalie prospect and a young RHD for another UFA who likely doesnt resign. I dont think Buffalo includes anything further

How does swapping a 5th for a 6th where the chance of an nhl is so low regardless affect the deal?

It doesnt, but why include it? Its wholly unnecessary imo

Because it makes it slightly better for the jets (look at the copp deal) it has the same idea behind it. It helps the jets get a slightly better shot at finding a gem and buffalo doesn't lose the pick altogether but moves down maybe 20 picks. That is barely a drip in the pan of an asset difference.

You confuse me. You are saying the pick swap is such a minor thing, simply a "drip in the pan." Then when I say why bother including something that doesnt increase or decrease the value in the trade in any significant margin you tell me it basically needs to be there... Like I said thats crazy good value coming to Winnipeg for two pending UFAs, Adams wouldnt add another piece.

Because it makes the deal better for the jets. Why wouldn't the jets say "hey this deal is pretty good but is there any way we can swap our 6th for your 5th?" It definitely is something that's small but if you had the deal on the table and the jets asked that would it really matter when you get the guy?

I'd rather give Ostlund than Rosen, just based on the fact that I've seen Rosen, and he's pretty damn good. Ostlund may be too -- no eye test for him to pass. Jokiharju makes this a haul, but may be available if the Sabres intend to improve their third pair via further trade (or via UFA). Would prefer to deal a B-prospect, but wouldn't flip a car over it.

It just doesn't happen. Point me to some big blockbuster trades where the team acquiring the big name player(s) does a pick swap in the latter rounds (3-7) with the other team to acquire a worse pick. Then I'll buy your point

Andrew copp. He went for 2 2nd round picks and Morgan barron with the pick upgrade. 1 of the seconds had ecf conditions that happened and we had a choice of a 2nd in 2022 or 2023. We also moved up from pick 178 to 151 this year.

Alright, thanks for letting me know. I didn't know of any off the top of my head. I still view that exchange of low picks as a pretty meaningless thing when a big name player is the focal point of the trade. Its basically pennies getting swapped in the same deal as a few 100 dollar bills

Hey I would rather get $300.57 instead of $300 and if the $0.57 really breaks the deal it would be surprising
