Marner to Devils

Description
if im toronto i trade matt but it seems like its harder to do with him "needing" to sign an extension for that to make sense. JT wont wave his NMC and trading willy wont give them any flexibility since they will need to bring someone in to replace his production, which is very good for his cost.

that leaves mitch :(. so i send him to a team on the upswing to play with hischier or hughes. i want a top line type player back and i can see that being bratt instead of meier and the cost would be quite similar. i feel like the devils need to add considering marner is a better player but have a steep cap so a small addition of a youngish depth guy and a pick.

the leafs didnt score enough last couple of games so i bring in some offense on the middle six with domi and barbashev, load up my first line and call it a day. also feel like holmberg earned a spot to center the fourth line last season.

i think the goaltending will hold up if woll takes some steps this year otherwise make a TDL deal.

as for defence holl walks, i move brodie to the left as he looked very good there and bring in mayfield to partner with either tj or reilly. rest of the spots are for grabs battle it out.

i send robertson to dallas for a fresh start and try to bring in some size on the backend but i can see this be schenn coming back as well on a similar type deal.

I'd much rather the Devils have Meier for 8 years at 8.5m than Marner for only 2 years.
Hope the Devils would decline this if offered.

Both are those deals are way too lopsided in TOR favor.

Meier probably signs long term for less than Marner has left over the next 2 yrs, and the cap space difference between the two is more useful for TOR. But for them to a .5 ppg Sharangovich AND a 2nd?

And maybe Leaf fans have short memories, but Robertson was a 2nd round pick, who in 3 pro seasons hasn;t grown bigger, hasn;t produced, was a healthy scratch and has suffered 2 season ending injuries. So I'm not sure he gets anything more than a 3rd rounder at this point (and probably has more value to TOR than DAL, who has alot more better options than Robertson). And DAL gives a cheap and quality RD in exchange? Im certain Hakanpaa has more value.

Not to mention, but Murray is not on LTIR, so you might have to address that.

me personally, I would take schenn over Hakanpaa

having Robertson bros on the same team could be some elite chemistry, if Nick stays healthy

On all these Marner-for-Meier and Marner-for-Bratt trades…Leafs need to add or retain a good chunk of salary (or both).

Our window is not closing.
We have other mouths to feed.

Please try to think of other teams situation when making these trades.
