Description

I have never been a Dubas fan. I wanted him fired after least season, so why am I mad today? Because for the first time he put together a team that won a playoff series, yet now we move on? And Shanny should be done for too. He has overseen failure. Whoever replaces him has to make a major move. You don’t lose your GM and keep this group together. I am of the belief that Matthews will leave as a UFA. The trade Mitch crowd are out of their minds because why would we want a team without Matthews and Marner next summer? Send Matthews out now and get a return.

This team has better goaltending in Hill and Woll. Bringing in Whitecloud gives us the kind of RHD we really don’t have now. We will score less without a doubt but if Auston walks for free as I suspect he will AND we get a Marner trade wrong, we will be a lottery team again.

I’m not giving that up without a contract in place where we aren’t paying him the most money in hockey…Hill is going to get more than that too

Brother, you're getting Auston Matthews in exchange for futures, a 2nd line winger, and a promise to let them borrow the cottage someday. You take this and run. Figure the contract out later

Nah, Shanahan said it wasn't about money. He said there was a framework for a deal in place and that Dubas was receptive and not to talk to the media until it is official. When Dubas had the press conference, Shanny realized that Dubas might not want to be the GM. So, to me it seems that he didn't want to wait around for Dubas and be left empty handed potentially.

I think the new GM might send out both Matthews and Nylander, and that this franchise might be in for a mini-rebuild.

I wonder why they purged the entire Marlies coaching staff.

Regarding Matthews and Nylander. Do the Leafs go "all in" with those two guys and try to for long playoff run next seaso?. OR at some time between now and TDL, they trade those two players for assets, kinda throwing away a Cup (maybe a playoff) run, but as you a type of rebuild. OR Resigning Matthews and Nylander for more money doesn't make the Leafs any better.
I'm in favour of a trade, and trust a competent GM can find equal value and more than what Matthews and Nylander would do for the same cap.

Idk, but I think a new GM might just tear the Band-Aid off so to speak and take whatever he can for either guy. The goal might be to be bad for a year and draft high next year, while getting as many pieces at the this draft out of Matthews, Nylander, Brodie, and whoever else that they can move. He may opt to moving Matthews and Marner and keep Nylander and see if he can renegotiate a deal with him since he should be moveable even after his M-NTC kicks in.

Another possibility is that he just runs it back, maybe tries to trade Tavares and then makes his own add through FA.
