Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 17, 2023
Published: May 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just some small tweaks by the Hurricanes... I'm a really big fan of Nico Daws and I think he'd make an excellent tandem with Kochetkov. I'm not sure about the return for Daws and Sharangovich... some feedback would be appreciated

I also took an estimate of what Ryan Graves's salary might be next year... Think he would be an excellent defenseman on this team and would work well with Chatfield. I also think the Hurricanes would be a very good landing space for Alexis Lafrenière and would fit well in the Hurricanes system and he could be fully developed like we did for KK

i dont see a reason for NJD to move Daws. Even Schmid isnt a guarantee at this point.

Graves doesnt make much sense for us. His doesnt have much of any puck skills and his defense only looks better in the metrics because NJ's O took off this year. He shouldnt get 10% more than Pesce but will likely get 1 million overpaid by someone else as he may be the best LHD available at FA. The canes dont overpay for FAs. His GSVA is 4.2 million.

just O.S Laf at a 1st and 3rd. no reason to trade that much.

Devils don’t have the goaltending depth to be moving Blackwood and Daws this summer (Blackwood looks like odd man out). Sharangovich is probably not a candidate to move until next summer when we will have to decide on giving him term. But either way, we would probably seek less in futures and more in young NHL talent.

I can see Blackwood Being the Odd man out and I forgot to include Yaniv Peters in the trade to compensate you for the loss of Daws. I think that you guys are going to bring in some talent in the off-season that is going to push Sharangovich out of the lineup and into possible trade bait.

I can see the argument for just Offersheeting Laf but the last time a team offer sheeted a player it ended up with us getting our second-line center and I don't want us to end up like that. Okay so switch Graves $5m for a better puck-handling left defenseman

My bet on Graves is 3-4 years right around that number, $4.25m. He is not a high skill guy by any means, but plays a decent all-around game with few mistakes. Best attributes are usually navigating around a forecheck and using his length defensively. But am a little surprised to see a Canes fan want him though as he and Dougie were their worst in that series (at least Dougie was hurt…Graves just played poorly).

I really like him when I watched him in the Regular series and in the Rangers series. He seems like he would be a good third-pairing defenseman.

Like him, but is someone who is coming from a system defense and would guess he is behind Daws in development. We had a rough go in net in 2021-22 dressing eight goalies…and rushes guys to NHL from ECHL. Want to avoid that again.

Canes aren't moving that much for a dude who's yet to score 40 points in the NHL.

I think he's pretty raw but he'll be okay for a couple of games if you need him in an emergency... but for now, you have Vanecek and Schmid. The Hurricanes could use the goaltending depth and a plausible third option in addition to Kocketkov and who ever they bring into backup considering the hurricanes bad run of goaltending injuries

The way we manage our cap, offer sheeting Necas or Jarvis wonnt be a concern.

I think Sharangovich to the Canes is a very sneaky add. He’s U25, put up 24 goals last season and is a responsible two-way player with 2 RFA years left. He had a down year this season. Having a kid and being deployed wrong hurts your value. However, I think the fairest trade comp is the Barclay Goodrow to TBL. Also, you don’t really need Daws because you goalie pool is loaded and we could use Daws.

To CAR
- Yegor Sharangovich
- 2023/2024 3rd/4th round pick

To NID
- 2023 First Round Pick (Pick #30-32)
- AHL throw in to make the contracts work

OR just your 2023 3rd and 2024 2nd

Which offer? The first or the second. I think GM Fitz prefers the first offer because he did say in his presser that he’s tryna trade into the first round. Carolina has a history of trading down. Instead of trading down for more picks, they trade down for a Top 9 player and a pick and buy at suppressed value.

Neither. They would match it in a Heartbeat and he would be a steal of a contract by the end

Do you think that they are going to match a 7x4.5... I'm not so sure with all of the contracts you have coming up as RFAs and the fact that you have $10m in cap space with 6 contracts to give out and K'Andre Miller still needs his payday and I think he gets priority over Laf. This feels a lot like the situation that Montreal was in with KK.

💯 they do. Buying out Goodrow gives more cap space back than his cap hit over the next 2 years. People think a NTC is 💯 a lock but players just want some say in the decision(control). If it really came down to it there would be a trade. But Goodrow contract instantly gives 3.8M in space with a buyout. It would have to be 7M+ to have them walk away. Then Necas would be in jeopardy. Also, while people think it’s a 1M increase, it was supposed to be 4M not long before that and I suspect it’s will be a 2-3M increase in the end since nothing is official yet.

He would be our 3LW. We would go shopping in the bargain bin before trading a 1st rounder for a 3LW

We would just do 1 year to maximize our cap for 24-25. Also to ensure he is a fit in our system before committing to him with a big deal

I mean he would probably cost something in the realm of 2.5m a year... so not a gross overpayement
