Fire Shanny

Description
Ok, Shanahan & Dubas had a power struggle and Shanahan fired Dubas & Spezza quit. MLSE could easily approach Dubas for Shanahan's job, then oust Shanahan. Dubas then promotes Brandon Pridham as GM, and rehires Spezza as special assistant to the GM. As much as I like Keefe maybe a Peter Laviollete (sp?) might be a replacement or Joel Quenville if ever allowed by the league. On to the ice. Trade Murray for cap space, extend Samsonov, Schenn, Acciari, O'Reilly, Kampf, trade Bunting & Robertson, and if possible Holl, Kerfoot, Aston-Reese, Simmonds, Gustafsson or let them walk. Offer Matthews at $10M & Nylander at $8M 8 years each ( team friendly deals to build a better team around them) or let play out their contracts & negotiate at the end of contract. People trying to land a new gig try harder. Nothing says they couldn't re-sign at the END of their term. It might cost more later but it might not, and it pushes the turmoil caused by management away. I didn't include contracts for Samsonov 3 yrs@ $3.5M, Matthews 8yrs @ $10M, Nylander 8yrs @ $8.5M, Holmberg 2 yrs @ $1M, Schenn 2 yes @ $1.2M, Acciari 2 yrs $1.5M, Kampf 2yrs @ $1.5M, O'Reilly 3 yrs @ $3.5M team friendly because frankly on my tablet I couldn't figure out the needed magic buttons.

You need to use a 23-24 template. You used a 22-23 template, which is no longer applicable.

    Kinda factual wrong.

Dubas wasn't fired....His contact was not extended. I might agree with you about Shanahan, I think he has been missing in action for awhile. Mostly because he stuck by his incompetent GM for so long.
Why all the love for Dubas? Has had average success on the ice. He was poor contract negotiator. Has traded away picks and futures at TDL, with no results. Has been poor in drafting.
Marner, Liljgren and late signing of Knies, and emergency replacement are the only draft picks on the Leafs. Has traded away many good picks in the future. Good riddance.

Now I do not have confidence in MLSE and Shanahan have the ability to hire a good GM. No, if past history is an indication.....Ferguson, Burke, Nonis and Dubas.

I'm glad Dubas is gone. He lied about taking time to discuss for his family and instead wanted to get more money out of it. Leafs also need a culture change

More than a culture change, Leafs need a "competency change" at GM. thought he was poor GM who had very average results, Has left Leafs in poor shape going into the future.

Um Shanahan hired Lou and Dubas as gms.....

Both were good GM's for the time. Lou up until 2021 was always in the running for GM of the year (Not with us sure but he signed some solid deals here Kadri, Rielly, Anderson, etc). Then we shifted to Dubas who had his idea but the flat cap hampered him but over the years. Still despite the early struggle he got better and better. Look at the TDL we had and the guys who were added that was nice.

Got a feeling if they kept him he really would have made the changes necessary to push this team far and give them a solid shot. Look at FLA got swept r2 after making it over their r1 hump made change to the core (Huberdeau + Weegar gone Tkachuck in) and look where they are now

Moving Marner or Nylander, hiring a new coach, and adding a few more pieces might have got it done. Sadly we will never know

But who knows like Tampa with Yzerman to Brisbois maybe a change will also spark something good

You are correct, the Yzerman to Brisbois was a good move. My concern is timing, 40 days to hire, sooth star egos, & re-sign stars by an unknown quantity could hurt us way more than escalating Dubas. Of course the 40 days is only important if you mean to trade them, could always sign them later in summer if they feel we got our ship in order.

The NMC really doesn't mean much. If they aren't traded and or signed, it certainly doesn't mean Matthews won't accept a trade to a contender by TDL. especially one that might offer him an eight year deal as opposed to a UFA seven year.
