Another utterly unrealistic -- in fact, mathematically impossible -- Marner trade to Los Angeles, which has $6.6 million in cap space to sign Gabe Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari and an actual NHL-capable LhD. In the face of that inescapable reality, you offer a trade featuring $2.6 million in cap out and $10.9 million cap in cap in plus two more roster slots to fill.

It's starting to feel like 3/4 of your fanbase creates trades by asking themselves (1) who do I want to trade off for maximum return, and (2) who do I want that maximum return to be, without giving even a nanosecond's thought to what the other team's needs are or how that proposed trade might affect it, roster-wise or cap-wise.

I mean... yeah. That's exactly what they do. It's a panicked fan base.

Kind of entertaining, Kind of annoying.

Rick Dubas doesn’t speculate what other teams are doing to clear space or whether or not they will flip the asset for another player. Rick Dubas is general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Also, it’s not up for discussion!

Warm regards,
Rick Dubas
