Three prior posts in the last half hour with Goodrow for a 2nd and 5th and now this, a 5th and 7th with retention. LOL. Bit of a Goodrow fixation, but why is this different and much worse than the prior 3 trade posts?

The retention.. same amount they would have with a buyout 3 years from now when cap isn’t an issue.

No thanks just buy him out and get extra cap since his buyout would be $-100,000

His buyout cap hit would be $200,000 year 1, $100,000 year 2, 1.15 million year 3, 3.6 million year 4, and 1.25 million for years 5-8. Not as simple as a "$-100,000" lol

I don't think you are right. The first 3 posts were no retention and Rangers got 2nd and 5th round picks and this one they are retaining $1m/year plus getting worse picks at 5th and 7th. Why is the question?

According to this webpage, year 1 is -$200,000 and year 2 is -$100,000 so they actually get a little more than his total cap hit back in years 1 and 2, which are the 2 years they need cap space the most. By year 3, the cap will go up enough to negate the $3.6m in year 3 and $1.25m for the rest. Buy outs are not a first option, but this one is relatively painless and much better than giving up assets or draft picks.

Oh I totally agree about not giving up assets to move him. I like Goodrow, and I think the right team would take him even at 3.6 million. I just don't think a buyout makes sense, especially since the rangers will likely still be contending when that 3.6 million cap penalty hits in year 4. But just my 2 cents

It's literally $-200,000 next season and $-100,000 the season after. 3 seasons down the line it a little more than 1mil and one season its 3m+, but the cap will move a lot until then. The ranger would be perfectly fine bying out goodrow
