Going for it

Created by: jimmyjets
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2023
Published: May 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don’t think this is advisable but we could…

Bring back pld on a 1 year, keep DeMelo, Scheif, Helle and Dillon.

Upgrade to Marner for KFC and Nino.

Jam Lambert into the top 6 to see what happens as he’s played against men.

Buyout Wheeler.

Sign LB to backup Helle this year and then be the starter bridging to Dom after that.

So many assets walk out the door but… blaze of glory going for it?

Fans would absolutely revolt if this team lets all of its assets walk for free.

And if Lambert isn't ready? And what about the eventual Ehlers/Perfetti injuries that are bound to happen? Theres no glory in shooting yourself in the foot.

And would you really spend money to watch the Winnipeg Moose rebuild from literal scratch for the next ten years?

So, $11M going each way.

I DO NOT LIKE Marner's contract. He's overpaid.

But, a CDN boy who produces everywhere anytime for an American boy who only plays sometimes and an aging Swiss guy who I don't think wants to play for WPG...

WPG says... DEAL.

To be clear, I do t think we should do this but to be the devil’s advocate. If Lambert isn’t ready, you could try Lucious or shift 55 to rw and trey Perfetti at C with Barron or Harkins at 2lw.

I don’t feel like Ehlers/Perfetti are bound to be injured but they both got hurt last year so I clearly can’t say they won’t either. I agree that this likely sets the franchise back a half decade if everyone decides to walk for nothing.

I would still pay, but I can afford to and I like going to the games with my friends. I like watching the shiny new toy and really we’ve retained so many guys it feels pretty stale. We need some new blood even just to keep it entertaining.

I wouldn't say that is a fair assessment of Connor. He has been pretty consistent and last year had 93 points in 79 games, this year had 80 points in 82 games. 93 points in 79 games is pretty close to Marner production at 4 mil less a year.

Also, Neiderreiter said today that he loves Winnipeg and that other players in the league don't' get it because all they see is the arena and hotel.

KFC gets easy points. He doesn't get them when the Jets needs someone to step up. Marner does that. Marner produces ALL THE TIME. KFC does it when the opportunity suits.

Weird about Nino. All I've heard through the rumor mill is that he wants to be on a contender, not a rebuilder. Very nice to hear (if it's true) that Nino loves WPG. I grew up in WPG and love it, so nice to hear someone else does.
