Description
My opinion the player to move on from is Marner. Think he puts forward his best effort but do not think his playstyles fits the playoffs. Also do not like his fit on powerplay and would prefer Nylander in his spot as a shooting threat. Looking at a trade, I think the best option is to get a player with 1-2 years left who a team is not going to able to retain. Some draft picks in both trades may need to be tweaked to reflect proper value but players are the focus. Let me know what you think!

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Aho, Sebastian
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Carolina will not want to move him but may be forced if he refuses to sign extension. Signed offer sheet in past so very possible. Will take Marner who has extra year left on deal, and Canes have center depth to counter. Marner can play PK and defensively responsible which fits canes system.
CAR
  1. Marner, Mitchell
  2. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Leafs while need to sweeten the deal on this to make up for (2.4M) extra cap space that Canes are taking on.
2.
TOR
  1. McLeod, Ryan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Oilers on cap crunch and will need to get rid of some salary.
EDM
  1. Abruzzese, Nick
  2. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
6ft 2 forward who looked impressive in playoffs. Should not cost too much. Not exactly sure on value to get back but this would be my starting offer.

Look what we have here. The best player in the trade has to have a sweetener because capfriendly has a rule that all leaf players are cap dumps. This is ridiculous

Canes pass. First line centers are borderline impossible to replace. Marner will always outproduce Aho, but the lower cap hit and the fact he's a 1C means Aho has a lot more value than Marner. Carolina are not going to move roster pieces for Marner anyway

So we punt the re-signing issue to next off-season instead of this one? Meh.

I would say Marner and Aho have similar value, with Aho being a centre and having more playoff impact. As well with him having 2.7 million less cap hit.

Fair, like I said I only think Canes would do it if Aho expresses he would not like to resign.

Just thinking about this one, I think 1 for 1 is the fair deal. In a scenario where they have trouble signing Aho, Marner would be the best player they could get in return.
For Toronto, they get some extra cap space this year but I think would need to be able to extend Aho or this could be a waste.

I get that, but if they feel like they can’t get him resigned, Marner makes sense for a team still wanting to be a cup contender. Even though they could run into the same issue with Marner next summer

If that's the case, they'll want a center back. Think Matthews, not Marner

Agree, only do trade if extension comes with it. However, I do feel leafs will need to sweeten deal if they are getting extenstion with it to make up for fact Marner makes more and Aho is a center.

No, Marner doesn't make sense for Aho. That leaves Jesperi Kotkaniemi playing 1C. I love KK, that's a REAL bad idea

Matthews is not getting traded unless he refuses to resign, and in that case he will have control on where to go and most likley will prefer Rangers or LA over Carolina. get Canes would want centre, but they can look for centres elsewhere through free agency, or flip the first round pick for one.

Aho is not going to get traded unless he refuses to sign. Difference is, Carolina have more cap room to throw money at Aho to change his mind than Toronto do. You don't get 1C's for late 1st rounders so that doesn't change anything for the Canes. Next years free agent class isn't loaded with C's either, mostly wingers. Marner doesn't help anything in that regard

True - like I said in my description this is under the assumption Aho wants out based on the fact he signed an offer sheet in the past. Leafs also do have more cap space this summer/next than people think. ALso, did not say they are getting Aho for late first??? Marner is main package there, draft picks/prospects will be there to sweeten deal.

I can assure you that if Oilers will have to let someone walk (and they will have to), it won't be McLeod. And it would be only for a better pick that they could use in the next trade.
