only because as @Rob32sjsharks said, jackets are extremely high on Smith. And then SJS seems to be in for a longggg rebuild so it wouldn't make sense to make their team better immediately by taking leo so michkov would be the far smarter selection imo
I have seen people worried about Carlsson’s offensive toolkit and ether he will be a top scorer in NHL. Smith’s 200 foot is probably underrated, but few doubt the offensive chops.
Doubt Carlsson drops very far…maybe 6 or 7. Still pretty high considering the competitiveness of this draft.

Michkov is a huge gamble! He isn’t fast and has issues with his compete level abd is undersized all things that Grier does not want so to me it’s Smith or Carlsson at 4.

Yet he'll be better than Kovalchuk & Malkin, and possibly even ovechkin... guess grier aint that guy then

Smith is garbage defensively ... Carlsson isn't dropping past 5, likely goes 3rd OA
The ones who might drop are Will Smith or Matvei Michkov

I find it hard to justify his D is garbage when he is plus 71 on the season. Even if he isn’t D focused I think it’s by design. You could say he is offense focused but to say he is garbage is crazy. And the arguement everyone else is fantastic on D and he is garbage just further proves my point! If he’s not needed for D and the coach wants him Offense focused is that really a bash on his D skill?

The guy has said his goal for Freshman year is to become a premier penalty killer. His defense is a big part of his game. RealisticGuy must have had him confused with Perreault.

For me I see flashes of a more offensive Couture!
And his stats are crazy similar to what Marner had his draft eligible season. He has decent speed and amazing offensive acumen if he can round out his D in college and add 10 pounds of muscle he could be a legit top line RW in 2-3 years. If he really rounds out his D game I could see him being a plus 1C

I think he stays at C. Only has to be able to handle defense, take draws, etc....and should be fine there.
Wouldn't want to take away half the ice from him. Would want him in open space.

Fair, but if he went to the sharks I would let him spend 2 years in NCAA then come over as a RW for a year or two before making the switch. I’m easier to get acclimated to the NHL on the wing then swap to C

Yeah, sure, I was thinking in his prime. Two years seems to be norm these days for top ncaa guys.
If Eklund goes to wing eventually? And Bordeleau? I know he is $$ on draws.
Eklund -- Smith -- (guy from EK65 trade)
Gushchin -- Bystedt -- Young
Lund -- Bordeleau -- Zetterlund
Raska -- Robins -- Coe
Mukhamadulin (player from Karlsson deal)
Thurn Laroque
Ferraro Havelid
Hrabal (23) or Olsson (24)
Makiniemi/ Chrona
Nice. I left out the veterans just to do the kids. Forgot about Makiniemi. Don’t know anything about Laroque…will have to look him up. And saw Fisher play live in HIgh School. He is quick. Moves so well on the ice. I expect big things.
