Schmaltz sure.

BIG BIG Pass on that Winnipeg deal. Connor had 9 more points than Necas and is 2 years older and cannot play center. Necas is straight up a more valuable piece than Connor when you factor in Necas makes 1/2 of what Connor does, is an RFA on expiry so still team controlled, and is just a way better skater

If you want to go "oh goal scorer!" he had 3 more goals than Necas

Yes, he only had 3 more goals then Marty but that was a down year for Kyle. He is a 40-50 goal scorer. Last year Kyle racked up more assists then usual.

Connor has had 1 season where he broke the 40 goal mark. I have major reservations. Sure, you can argue he's a 35 goal scorer, but even so, Necas had 28 this last year in a major breakout year. I'm not trying to say anything bad about Kyle Connor, I would love him in Raleigh, but I think it's pretty clear Necas has more value at this moment

Kyle's contract gives him more value. He is a first-line forward locked in at a little over 7M for 3 more years. Cost-controlled players are a premium in the flat-cap world. Necas will probably only sign short term since the cap will rise soon... and what is the chance he would want to sign in WPG. The trade makes sense for CAR only. A huge no from WPG.

Canes accept both these trades, but I don't think the other teams involved would approve

I do think you're overpaying for Staal and Pat, I think they'll take less. I think Gost will get offered more elsewhere and will not be worth the bidding war.

Freddy is a bit of an overpay as well, but can live with that

Necas is an RFA, he doesn't have much choice. The younger center than was barely outproduced has more value than the winger here. Necas is a 1st line winger making 3 million. You argue Connor's deal is worth more in a flat cap, except next year the cap won't be flat. It's expected to jump drastically. That means, Connor's value is nice, but Necas' 3 million and RFA expiry are worth more this year and equally as much on expiry. This doesn't make sense for Carolina. If you're Winnipeg, you take this and run, makes no sense for Carolina
