Can't imagine a GM retaining that much for 3-years. When trying to move a bad or unwanted contract, GMs are going to try to make that contract as favorable as possible if they retain.

I like the idea of sending T.J. home but from a hockey standpoint, I don't know how much sense it makes. Seattle has plenty of wingers for their top nine so Oshie is definitely not a need. The salary retention helps but Seattle is still paying money and a draft asset for a 36 year old forward they don't need.

I think that Minnie trade is sensible, although that's a lot of cap to retain. Peart would be a great add to the pipeline, he could look really nice as your 2 LHD moving forward. Retained Oshie gets more than a 3rd imo, you could get a 2nd and prospect at TDL if he's healthy I'm positive

whats the incentive for Mtl? it's just a 2nd and a nothing prospect for a top 5 spot 3 spots down.

My main concern with Oshie was just the age, at 37 he won’t last much longer

Eric Staal went for a 3rd and 5th to Montreal at TDL even though he was having an awful season. Teams pay more for experienced vets with good track records
