The Capitals will not be trading Forwards for Defense and if they do Girard is not a player that will appeal to them. Kuznetsov is still a 1B/2A Center in the League and the Capitals have no reason to give him away but Girard is not the right return.

Hmm let see Monahan in the last 2 seasons 90games played and 45pts, Erod 151 games played and 82pts and Monahan gets a 2x4 woof.

Monahan on the top line and at that cap hit is a disaster waiting to happen. He’s practically bound to get hurt (sadly his career has been absolutely derailed) and his contract is going to look very bad.

Why not, looks like your left handed defense can use a boost... and kuzy is playing on your 3rd centre currently and if I'm not mistake had asked for a trade

Girard is……not good defensively.

Kuznetsov is our 1C/2C now in a platoon with Strome and was unquestionably our 1C for a significant portion of this past season. Regardless, he’s clearly ahead of Backstrom at this point. He has asked for a trade off-and-on for a little while but he’s still under contract, if the trade doesn’t make the Capitals better, they’re not going to make the trade. Simple.

Take out Alexeyev and Girard and this might appeal to the Caps. But the retention on Kuznetsov is probably going to cost more.

That sounds like someone who hasn't watched Girard before would say.. good defensively, good skater, good puck handling, only knock is that he's small

People said much the same thing about Tyson Barrie. Girard is a 2-way DMan who’s metrics are definitely and unquestionably offensively tilted and his defense is essentially league average at best.

The cost for 33% of retention is Mantha (négative value)
Avs give à young forward and Washington a young dmen.
Girard and 1st > Kuz 33% and Mantha
Newhook 22 years 159 gp

Washington is not going to retain on Kuznetsov for multiple seasons just to move Mantha for THIS season. The more you try to justify it, the worse this trade gets for WSH.
