Taylor Hall is about the last personality you want to add to this locker room. He Yaps about wanting to play for a contender and signs with BUF the team with the longest playoff drought in the NHL.</div></div>
With the way everyone is producing in Buffalo, it's safe to say it's not only Hall who's the issue. He was awesome with the Coyotes all last season, but didn't do much against the Avs; no one did.
As for Donskoi, imo he can be quite easily replaced. He's not a top penalty killer, and with everyone back he's a low end guy on the PP2. PP1 would be MacKinnon, Rantanen, Hall, Landeskog and Makar. PP2 would be Kadri, Burakovsky, Saad, Girard and Toews.
The Avs get a lot better with this trade.

I think that Hall like contract would be a serious albatross considering during it’s duration the Avs would have to sign basically everybody besides Mikko and Girard to extensions, especially with all the chatter of the cap being flat the next couple of seasons. Now if he would take a short term deal 1 or 2 years by all means.</div></div>
The thing is, I think all the contracts will work out long term. Erik Johnson, Donskoi, and Compher all finish their contracts just as MacKinnon comes up, so there's the money for him. Landeskog will probably get a ~$3mil raise, which would be opened up by the Calvert/Cole contracts expiring, and Makar will probably look for around $9-9.5mil. It's definitely possible to sign Hall long term, you'd just have to trade one of the 3rd/4th liners that are making more than they're worth.
Avalanche are in a very unique, and fortunate situation where they not only have the assets for a star player, but the cap room as well.
