<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>COL isn’t trading Barron for a rental.</div></div>
Why not? Makar, Toews, Girard and Byram are locked in the top-4 for the next three years, so why not deal from a position of strength. The price will, and should be high for Giroux.

That Colorado trade is ludicrous. Basically three first round picks for a rental. Eichel didn't even get that.

If you paid attention, you'd know that Erik Johnson's $6mil comes off the books the same offseason that MacKinnon's contract ends. The contract is already taken care of.

Forsberg TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Given the shortage of picks and graduation of the top end talent in Newhook and Byram, Barron is the last true gem in the farm system and I think Sakic would be very loathe to move him AND a 1st rd pick, the retention especially if this deal is at the TDL wouldn’t be as big a factor in the trade as the Avs could accumulate enough cap space by then (I think).</div></div>
While I agree, I think Sakic puts it all on the table for this playoff run. Tampa Bay hasn't had a first round pick since 2019, and they've done very well. Colorado still has Behrens and Helleson in the pipeline too. If Forsberg comes with an extension, I think it's a good move. Gives them another forward that can carry their own line offensively.

The Sabres clearly aren’t making the trade unless they’re getting something they like. Eichel’s camp can say what they want, but the Sabres are in control.

Look at Vegas when they had their expansion picks. Centres are hard to get.

Newhook was absolutely dominant last night, had 5 points. Definitely a risk, but the host on NESN said last night that they know the development team for the Avs, and that they absolutely love Newhook, and that he'll be in the NHL in a few weeks.
You have 15 or so games to get him acclimated, and up to speed at 3C.

These trades are bad. Firstly the retention on Compher, and trading him and Donskoi is bad. Hall I wouldn't want on the Avs. Annunen is slated to be the future Avs goalie. Just bad all round.</div></div>
Grubauer is the Avs current, and future goalie so I have no idea what you mean.
Retaining on Compher might be necessary, he's not that good. 4 points in 22 contests doesn't move $3.5mil in cap in this state of the NHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Not good trades for the Avs. Cap dumping a 25yr old middle 6 guy that plays special teams because he has had a bad season to date in a condensed season that has been paused for the Avs, is an over reaction.
Taylor Hall is about the last personality you want to add to this locker room. He Yaps about wanting to play for a contender and signs with BUF the team with the longest playoff drought in the NHL.</div></div>
With the way everyone is producing in Buffalo, it's safe to say it's not only Hall who's the issue. He was awesome with the Coyotes all last season, but didn't do much against the Avs; no one did.
As for Donskoi, imo he can be quite easily replaced. He's not a top penalty killer, and with everyone back he's a low end guy on the PP2. PP1 would be MacKinnon, Rantanen, Hall, Landeskog and Makar. PP2 would be Kadri, Burakovsky, Saad, Girard and Toews.
The Avs get a lot better with this trade.

What are they basing this on if as you say he's having some struggles breaking in so far? Like I think he's going to be really good, even steady top 4 pushing top pair by mid next season if he is developed with care, but what the heck is all this talk of him being ready for something like the Olympics by next year?</div></div>
He's not struggling lol. He had a couple of games where he wasn't at his best and fans over reacted. He was still playing top-4 minutes, as the coaches aren't as emotional as the fans.
He's playing at a 56%CF level... He's fine

Classic quantity over quality trade. No chance the Sabres even consider this trade.
The starting pieces are probably Lafrieniere or Zibenejad, otherwise never going to happen.

My only issue is the term on the Graves contract. I think the sample size is too small to offer him that much, even though 2.75mil is reasonable for a defenseman. He's a good candidate for arbitration, and something around $2.75 on a 1 year deal makes sense. No sense in taking the risk when he's going to be a RFA again next season too.

Murray has been heavily linked to COL in the last few months of so. I don't know what the contract would look like, but I assume it'd be figured out before the trade occurs. The trade would be contingent on him signing an extension obviously.
